Red face Hiding in my house out of shame of my size..

And it sucks!!

I piled on a bunch of pounds when I was diaganosed with COPD.
I keep trying to blame the steriods in my medication, but the Drs say they would only cause a 5-8 pound gain.

Since end of July I have added about 40 pounds.

Shortness of breath that comes with the disease makes it hard to exercise. In fact walking through my house is exhausting.
But I've also started 'self medicating' with alcohol. I'm sure that piles on poundage too!

My physical activity is very limited most times, but I am able to hang out in my kitchen, and watch food network, probably a bad combo.

I also realize that since my weight increase, my breathing issues have no doubt gotten worse.

I have not told anyone my weight. Just that I'm at an all time high.

Sorta suffering on my own. Not that my weight gain is a secret, kinda hard to hide a 40+ pound increase.

My husband is of the generation that wants meat, potato/pasta, veggie and bread with each meal.

So anyway, that's who I am. Not sure where I'll be posting next, but I'm sure I will.

Hi Tracy! I feel your frustration and I'm glad you've joined the forum here. You'll find lots of support from understanding people! First off, the doctors say you'll only gain 5-8 lbs but everyone is not alike. It might cause a bigger weight gain in some people, so please don't beat yourself up about that. But you don't have to exercise to lose weight. It helps, of course, but exercise is for fitness. Diet is the key to weight loss. As for the alcohol, it looks like you already know you shouldn't be self-medicating with that and that it's contributing to your weight gain, so put it down. And I too have a meat and potatoes husband. It can be hard having those kinds of foods in the house, but just because they are there doesn't mean you have to eat them or overeat them. The bottom line is that you having a serious breathing condition and the extra weight is making it harder to breathe, so it's time to do something about that. You've taken a first great step in coming here! I'm proud of you! I know what you are going through is frustrating, but you can help yourself and you CAN lose weight. So browse around, get involved, get motivated, because it's time to do this thing and you can do it! Good luck!
