Hi All,
I'm new, and here is a bit about me:
I'm 45, married, mother of three mostly grown children, work at home telecommuter, knitter, yoga student, archer, and best friend to Nikko the Frug (french bulldog/pug mix).
I'm also a diabetic with high cholesterol and high BP that is controlled with medication.
I always thought that since my diabetic numbers weren't that high, I was fine just taking the medication and eating whatever I want. I've tried for my whole life to lose weight, and failed every single time.
So, during my last Dr. appointment my A1C was 7.9, which is up from about 6.5 in previous tests. Dr. told me that if I didn't get it under control the next step was insulin injections. I realize that a lot of people use insulin, but it really scared me to think that I was headed there.
After that appointment on June 11, I got serious. I got really serious about cutting carbs and counting calories. I'm using Loseit.com to track calories and just avoiding bread, rice, potatoes, and donuts (how I miss donuts!!).
I've lost 19.2 pounds since June 11 and lots more to go. My blood sugars are in the normal range every morning for the past two weeks. Maybe I can get off of some of my medications soon.
I'm glad I found this site - here's to making new friends.
