Default The most hated days on my weight loss journey!

What are they? They are days like yesterday when I was supposed to weigh in and instead of a loss (did not cheat on ww diet) the scale said I weighed the same as last week. So yes that was disappointing but it gets worse. Today I decided to check again, thinking maybe it was water weight or something. I get on the scale and it says I gained two lbs over night! WHAT????? Ugh I hate these days!!! These are the days when it's so very hard to stick to this whole thing. Not to mention these are the days I just want to eat the disappointment away!! I want to take that scale and throw it out the window! Can't do that though, instead I'll just rant here and try to get over it!! Ugh!!!

It's water! And will go. If you look at my graph that plots my daily weight, it goes mostly down but there are gains and stalls. I have gained 2.6lbs in a single day. So don't get bogged down in the day to day or week to week. Think longer term.

A big part of the journey of weight loss is getting to know your body. For instance, I gain weight on a single day every week, for no reason whatsoever. I just ride that gain out and accept that over the long term I am still losing. Today I gained despite busting my butt in the gym yesterday and sticking completely to plan. But I know that I will lose again soon and bigger because of that.

So hang on in there!

Definitely echoing what Ian said. In your case, it sounds like it really is water.
Also, I'll add that women can easily gain even more than 2.6 lbs in a single day from water retention. I know personally that my weight can fluctuate pretty drastically - I'd give you numbers, but I don't weight in daily anymore so it's hard to know for certain. I can definitely say that I've gained 5 lbs in a day from water. (Over the course of a whole week I remember it being up 8 or 9 lbs once. ) But on the flip side, I'd also lose those 5 lbs practically overnight.
As long as you're absolutely certain that you're in a calorie deficit and sticking to your plan, you should have nothing to worry about. Be patient and it will catch up with you.

"A big part of the journey of weight loss is getting to know your body."

I'm really finding this to be true, I too have gained more than a pound in one day before with seemingly no cause. HUG to you, hang in there!

I just want to let you know that this has happened to me too and it stinks! I end up telling myself that my scale is evil and I need to take a break from it for a while. Just know that if you truly are eating at deficit and working out, the weight will come off. Even though we're told that weight loss is a numbers game, the human body is still an enigma and we still don't know everything there is to know about weight loss. Just trust in your methods and hang tough. You'll get there with hard work and determination!

I definitely know where you are coming from...yesterday I weighed in at 213.5, my lowest weight in probably 2 years. Today, I just weighed myself and it said 216.7. I did increase my exercise today (one hour on the elliptical, and about 90 minutes of throwing a ball for my dog...who a lot of times will not bring it back so I have to go get the ball myself lol!), and yesterday I had some pancakes, which are not normal for my diet. So I have an idea as to the why I gained those 3 lbs back.

I just hate the feeling of needing to lose weight I've already lost

Many posters on the different thread have commented that they weigh only on set days or don't use a scale at all; i.e., they'll go six months without weighing. I'm beginning to think that weighing once a week is what I should try as this weighing every day and being so disappointed over a weight gain is getting to me. Mentally, I know I didn't eat 7000 calories the day before so there's no way I gained two pounds. But emotionally, it does a number on me. So, I'm going to start just having a weigh in day and stop with the daily (and some days hourly) weigh ins.

Joil, I totally understand the desire to eat emotionally when the scale is not being a friend. Good for you for coming here and having a little rant (definitely one of the smallest rants I've ever seen......really let it rip if it helps any!).

I agree with Betsy2013. I'm really trying to only weigh once a week and every time I stray from that and do it more often, I end up with disappointment and that really drags me down mentally and makes me want to eat more which is completely irrational and I know it.

This is very timely for me. And I benefited from reading everyone's posts. Thank you!

Two days ago I was 178.5 (after stalling in the low 180s for 2 months). Yesterday I was 179.4. Today? 181. Back. in. the. 180s.

It's so frustrating. Frankly I know I'm not emotionally stable enough to handle daily weigh-ins, but I do it anyway. The pay off is just SO great when the scale goes down. But...when it's up (for whatever reason), I want to go eat cookies for breakfast. I hate that! My mood is directly tied to my weight and it's getting on my !(&# nerves!

Anyway, OP, sorry you're dealing with this. I'm hoping you start seeing good numbers on the scale soon.
