Default Blood Pressure?

I recently bought my mother a blood pressure machine to monitor her blood pressure since she needs to do that. Well, you know how mothers are....she insisted that I do it too.

My stats so far have been surprising. It's been up in the middle to high range, and I had no idea! I'm keeping a log of it, but I'm starting to wonder if this has been my problem all along as to why I always feel so exhausted, and always having headaches. I just contributed it to allergies, lack of vitamin D (which I'm taking pills for), and everything else.

I admit to being stressed out, although I'm trying to keep myself calm and give all of my worries up to the Lord. My job has been stressful with the downsizing, pay freezes, and no backfilling of any open positions. I'm worried as to where my career is going, if I need to make a change, and if so, will it come back to bite me in the butt? Then of course, you have your usual family dramas into the mix. I have siblings that seem incapable of managing their money issues, and some in laws that seem to be here on earth just to torment me.

I'll be going in to see my doctor soon, and I'm hoping I won't need to be on blood pressure medicine. Does anyone know of some ways that you can bring down your blood pressure besides the obvious? Thanks!

Most obvious way is to reduce your sodium intake. I posted in another thread about getting lightheaded but when I cut out sodium of my diet, I got lightheaded due to low blood pressure and had to add more salt to my diet and I stopped having an issue.

Some sources of excess sodium:
1) Sodas (I'm not sure if this is diet only or all)
2) Some dairy products
3) Packages/frozen products - I buy canned beans but I do rinse them which removes some of the salt in the liquid
4) Restaurant food

I don't know... I never found those things to be accurate. Home monitors. Some clinics will do the BP checks for free at any time. May be better to check it that way. Ask your doctor if she knows of something like this.

Personally, I don't trust those automated/machine blood pressure cuffs. I have found that they are almost always read higher than my baseline for blood pressure.

I do agree with this.....mine always reads off the charts! I am sure you doctors office will do a manual check tho. Good for keeping a log tho it will give the doc an idea of whats going on.

Cut out caffine!!! That is one of the worst thing for high pressure! and most of all the obvi...RELAX alittle take some time for peace and quiet as hard as it may be!

Actually, that's what been interesting...I cannot tolerate caffeine, as it makes me dizzy, so a lot of that has been cut out. I also don't drink any sodas, or have any chocolates.

About the only bad thing would be stress and maybe some salt. I dunno...maybe I'm eating too much salt without realizing it? Have to look into that one...

The best thing would be to get your blood pressure checked by a doctor. If they think it is too high then they will say so and you will probably have to take medication and eat less salt etc. Sounds like it may be slightly high due to stress. It can happen, when I'm stressed, my blood pressure goes up.
