About a year ago, I posted a thread on here (using a different account - I don't remember the password now), asking if I would look good with short hair, even though I am obese. I posted a picture of me and the hairstyle I wanted (this thread can be found here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/gene...hort-hair.html).
Anyway, I finally got 'the cut' and I love it (almost a year later!). Just wondering if you guys think it suits me? Any ideas on how I can style it? I've researched some but can't find anything that I like or even how to do it!
I recently got my hair cut short too. I get lots of compliments for the new do. I don't do a lot to style it during the week. But if I go out, Pipits a bit of product in my hair to shape and tame it. I use a hair wax by Avers to spike it up a bit and to keep the sides from curling funny.
I don't know if I think you have to consider your "obesity" in picking out a hairstyle. You don't seem to cary any extra weight in your face or neck. From those pics, I'd think you were "normal"-weighted.
I have super short hair, myself. I always show the stylist this pic for what I want, but they only believe me about half the time. lol Your cut looks awesome, but seriously, if my hair is over about half an inch long, it's too much work!
I was mostly concerned because everyone said that "fat people shouldn't have short hair cuts..." I have also heard of people saying fat girls with short cuts look like pigs with short wigs on or something.
I had tried to get it cut last year but the hairdresser had a look of "oh god no" and said that my cowlick would be hard to tame and that my hair is naturally waving and you would just have wings." I was really upset. Then I got told by another hairdresser that said "like to your shoulders?" when I asked her if short hairstyles would suit me. :/
It's kind of a downer, since I've been crazy about the celebs hairstyles that were short; I just loved them!
In the thread that I linked, people told me to wax my eyebrows; I still haven't waxed them!
I used to have short hair... as short as a buzz and several other short styles as it grew out, but I have a funny part and I personally thought it was too much work to keep up with. I didn't like putting hair products in it. I have very long hair now, butt length, and like it. That cut looks really nice on you though! I think the comment about "pigs" is terrible!
I keep my hair longer so I can hide behind it. It's part of my security blanket.
My hair was my security blanket too!
... Which was the main reason I needed to chop it all off! There were several others: It was summertime, and I hadn't styled it any different in nearly 10 years. But I was just tired of it being the same and boring. I wanted something 'edgy'!
And thanks everyone for the compliments! You are all so supportive!
I always thought short hair looks good on heavier people. Shoulder length hair works too but super long (down to the butt) looks bad in my opinion. Again, that's just my opinion.
My own hair is tailbone length and getting longer - not a security blanket, though, just me fulfilling my dream of being skinny with long 'princess' hair, as my daughters would call it .
Don't let other people dictate what looks good to you. Seriously. Hair, in particular, is so much more about the way you wear it (with confidence!) than the cut, itself.

I don't know if bad is the right word but in general, I think obese people look better with shorter hair. It helps draw attention to the face rather than the body. I'm not saying you are going to look 100 lbs lighter with shorter hair but it is the way we as humans tend to have our eyes drawn to hair and thus the face with short hair. Also, many people that don't feel good about themselves due to their weight may also think they don't deserve things like regular hair cuts but you do Not to say all obese people don't do things regularly like get pampered in one way or another but I'm sure there are many out there that don't.
In general, I like shorter hair and my hair is longer than I'd like it but partially because it grows quick and I have gotten lazy with my hair. I get regular trims and tend to wear cute headbands when my hair is longer but haven't decided what I want to do with it yet. The hair cut I had before meant me going to the salon every few weeks because my hair grows quickly, I just have to figure out if I want to go back to that or something different. And like the thread on capris where some fashion critic says capris don't look good because they shorten the leg on people, I'll still rock capris and some people may go with long hair.
You're beautiful! And I think you look equally good with both. I prefer the look of longer hair, but if YOU feel better with a short 'do, keep it! Really, you can't go wrong either way.
I've always had the opposite feeling - I always kept my hair short because my hair is really curly so I thought the extra bulk made me look bigger. I'm trying to grow it out now to see how it will look with a new smaller me - but I do like having short hair and my last short cut was very similar to yours.
