I don't know anything about GPS (don't have it in my old car). Those gadgets runners wear to keep track of time and distance... are they GPS? And if you have one, do you have to pay for some kind of GPS service to make it work?

Definitely not a dumb question. I don't know if ALL running watches have GPS in them but that is how a lot of them work. In fact, Garmin, the company who makes GPS systems for cars, also makes watches for running. As far as I know, once you buy the watch you have the service. You don't have to pay a monthly fee or anything like that. That being said, they are pretty expensive watches! I would love to get one some day
Some watches have the GPS, but as Sum said, there are plenty of free smart phone apps that track too. Totally fun way to keep track of where you've been and how far you've walked/run.
