So...I've been doing a lot of what I will call...limpjogwalking as of late. The only pair of athletic (looking?) shoes I own are giving me gnarly cuts on my heels. I got them at Target for about $25 bucks which, up until this point, I considered to be about the highest amount of money I could spend on a pair of shoes without compromising my moral integrity (I'm a goodwill type of gal). A few of my friends have suggested that you simply must spend at least $80 to get a pair of running shoes that are not horrible.

One friend even suggested going to a running store (um, those exist?) to get fitted. I am feeling pretty naive here, as you may have perceived...your thoughts? Is this true? What brand of shoes work well for you? Are they pricey? Is there such a thing as a decent running shoe around, say, $40?
