Do you use a air purifier or air filter for the home, your advice?

  • Hi everyone...

I used to have an Ionic Breeze by The Sharper Image and it worked well, I was amazed as to how much dust it got rid of. I went to a specialist today for some recurrent respiratory problems and in a pamphlet that was given to me are some featured air purifiers for the home. The ones that are advertised in this pamphlet are upwards of three hundred dollars and I don't know if I need something with all the bells and whistles. I have severe allergies, asthma and am being tested for immune issues and I think improving the air quality in this dusty apartment would be beneficial. I thought the Ionic Breeze was easy to clean unlike some humidifiers's honeycomb filters which have to be changed.

Do you have any experience with these products and if so, what is your advice?

Thanks in advance because it is much appreciated.

I hope everyone is doing well on what I consider to be a very L O N G day...
  • I've had an Oreck ProShield for 10 years, it still works and it's amazing. It will run you about $300 but when it comes to your health it's worth the investment. My son had a lot of seasonal allergies when he was little but I still use it every night. When you walk in his room you can actually feel/smell a difference in the air. It's weird.

    Also fairly simple to clean.
  • If you have asthma, be careful with air cleaners/purifiers that generate ozone - they can aggravate your breathing difficulties. I have significant dust allergies, and I've been using 2 HEPA air filters in my 801 sq ft condo for a few months. I've noticed a big difference in the amount of dust on the floor and furniture, and it's amazing how dirty the pre-filter can get! If only we could get about 10 at work! I paid about $250 each for mine. Make sure that you get the right size cleaner(s) for your space - it will say on the box what size room it's for.
  • We have a bio are purifier from Walmart. Cost about 100 bucks. Works very well, especially since we're in a dusty are with a pet.
  • I love my ionic breeze! I also use a filterless humidifier I bought at Wal-Mart for $25. I can tell the difference when they're not running.
