Default Terrified to try

Hi all,

I am a teacher, not working at the moment , living in Qatar. I am taking meds that cause weight gain and have put on a lot of weight over the last three months. I need to take control, but am terrified of trying, so much so that I have not had the guts to weigh myself....am working up to it. Also, in the last four months my dad has had a stroke and my mom has had a cancer diagnosis. Have been stuffing in food to cushion the blow. But, nothing changes, I am only hurting myself. Hope to give and get support on this site.

Ready to try!

Sorry to hear about all your family problems. Hope your mum and dad are both ok. You can do it, just take it one day at a time. If you fall off the healthy eating band wagon just jump straight back on it. 3FCs forum will help you loads. Good luck to you

Welcome

I agree that a positive attitude will definitely help you out. I can see that things are tough for you right now and a positive attitude will be difficult for you, but just remember that things happen for a reason and we are never given more than we can handle.
When you wake up in the morning, smile and tell yourself how fabulous you are and that everything will turn out just as you want it, in regards to your weight loss. I've recently witnessed (on Facebook) that a friend has battled cancer and won.

The mental battle is the toughest of them all, but you will be stronger once you come through the other end.

If the scales are something that you are unsure of, then my advice is to stay away from them. Don't be constrained by the numbers because they won't help you right now Weight loss can be seen in the mirror and it is reflected in your smile; a smile that knows you are achieving. Stay away from the scales, put them in the garage if you have to, and concentrate on the foods you eat. If you have a binge, don't worry about it. Weight loss is a lifestyle and none of us get it right the first time! In fact, this month has been a bad one for me in regards to my foods (too many birthday's and wedding's!), but I know that if I keep going I will achieve my goal.

You can do it, you just have to believe in yourself just as we all believe in you. By coming here you have taken the first step If you need support, don't hesitate to post it on this forum.

It's not always about losing weight. Sometimes it's more about getting back control of your eating and finding other ways to deal with stress and living a healthier lifestyle....and then you will lose weight. Less pressure.

If you're on medication that makes it easy to gain and hard to lose - there's no point in beating yourself up over slow weight loss. But clearly that's not all that's going on here. Use this opportunity of unemployment to get fitter. Exercise is amazing for dealing with stress.
