Default Hi there. New here.

Hi, all,

My name is Carolyn, and I decided it was time to join a group of individuals going through the same motions.

I have struggled with eating and weight problems since around 12ish. I started with Anorexic tendencies and almost a semi-phobia of eating in front of people (like at school, in public, etc), and eventually binging was added, so I would starve for days, then I might binge for a day, and then back and forth.

Over time, I have gotten rid of the majority of that, and it doesn't really occur to me anymore. But I do gain easily, even at calorie counts that I technically should not. I was told by a doctor that it could have to do with all that I put my body through back then. Though, when not dieting, I do have tendencies of just eating when I get hungry, so maybe just once or twice a day, which probably doesn't help.

I have been on medications in the past that I gained weight with, which altogether added up. From 2008-2009 I lost over 100 lbs. Since then (most of the weight gain occurs in the winter) I have gained back 40 lbs.

So I am on a diet again, and plan to start walking 3 times a week starting next month (too cold and snowy now in Iowa to do it until then). Though I dread it, as it is excruciatingly painful, as I have moderate to severe Fibromyalgia pain and stiffness.

I hope to make some friends, and keep my motivation up. I think support is something I've lacked.

See you all around!

Welcome, Carolyn! I would like to mention to you that if you dread walking because it hurts you, you probably shouldn't do it. It will not be something you can stand to do for very long. I have CRPS/RSD, diabetic neuropathy, and fibromyalgia and I can sympathize with you. Is there a YMCA near you. If so check out their pool or a community pool. I know some people that go to a hotel and work out a deal to get in the indoor or heated pool to exercise. I jog for 30 minutes and do 150 stomach crunchies in the water and it does not hurt me. I can't walk 10 minutes with being in terrible pain. If that is not an option for you, start DVD exercise. I started with Sittercise and worked up to Dancing Grannies (I think was the name of it). They are lower impact but really get you moving and I enjoyed them. Hope this helps,

Welcome, Carolyn!! I love your username and avatar!

I second the swimming idea, very low impact but burns a lot of calories. Good luck with whatever you decide that works for you.
