Default Reasonably-portioned Snacks

I'm on the Shred diet by Dr. Ian Smith and while it doesn't have us count calories for things like meals, it has us eat snacks that are 100 calories each or 150 calories each, depending on the day/time.

I'm in law school, which means that I have very little time to actually package/measure out my own snacks. While I will, I prefer to buy pre-packaged snacks that I can grab and go. Does anyone have any suggestions for snacks like these? It seems like even some of the "diet" snacks are packaged in 200 calorie packages. I have found 90 calorie boxes of raisins and also there's a certain brand of Weight Watcher's string cheese that's 50 calories, which makes it easy to pair with something else that's 50 or 100 calories. I'm just trying to think of things I might have missed, things that don't necessarily have to be in the "diet snack" aisle, or stuff that's easy to measure-for instance, I found a brand of crackers where one cracker is 5 calories.

I'm just sick of seeing stuff that's loaded with sugar and fat and 300-400 calories being touted as a "snack". The other day I bought a "snack" package of cashews, thinking that I could use it for a couple of snacks, and it had 390 calories in it! I used it for 3 days!

I'm a big fan of the 100calorie snack packs by nabisco and Keebler. They're usually on the cracker aisle. Also granola bars are usually around 100 calories.

Trader Joe's has a large bag filled with individually wrapped bags of 100 calorie almonds you might like.

Also, check out both Cabot's and Sargento for their bags of individually wrapped cheese sticks. The Cabots is 50 calories and the Sargento is 90.

Several of my local groceries carry larger bags with individually wrapped bags of fruits and veggies that might work for you as well. I usually see things like baby carrots and apple slices with grapes.

If you have an insulated lunch bag maybe things like the small containers of cottage cheese or Laughing Cow cheese. Breakstone individual cups are 90 calories. I've also seen hard boiled eggs sold in a package of six at Trader Joe's.

I don't eat peanut butter but I've seen single servings (bundled into a pack of six) of Jiff that might work as well. I don't know what the calorie count for those are.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your suggestions! I went and found some 100 cal granola bars today and I'm going to try the Laughing Cow cheese things next time I go to the store-I do take an insulated lunch box with me to school every day.

Justin's makes peanut butter, almond butter and hazlenut butter squeeze packs that are 180 cals, but I've gotten sample ones that were 80 cals each.

I love buying the blue diamond 100 calorie packs of almonds. You can get a big box of 32 of them at BJ's I believe.

I've also seen pistachios EVERYWHERE in small, 130-150 cal packs in drug stores, convenience stores, etc.

...I love nuts if you couldn't tell

I am always on the hunt for low cal snacks! Here are some of my faves:

Dole makes small cans of fruit in juice for about 50 calories, depending on the fruit.

You can also get Dannon light and fit yoghurt in a large package where the cartons are maybe 4 oz and 60 calories a piece.

One of my favorite indulgences for 100 calories is the vitamuffin/vitatop brand of snacks. They're muffins or muffin tops (hah!) for 100 calories with lots of good vitamins and in lots of different flavors. You can usually find those at Target in the frozen food section.

Another good one is the mini packs of sabra hummus, paired with some veggies (when I was in law school I frequently picked up pre washed/cut carrots and celery from my supermarket's refrigerator section).

You can also have a few triscuits and a wedge of laughing cow or a string cheese for under 150!
