One way I use to save money and to buy healtheir food at the same time is to check the sales each week in the produce department...last week at my store bags of apples were on sale for $2, and this week strawberries are on sale 3 packages for $5. I get different fruit each week, have healthier snacks around the house, and save money.
Some healthier and more waistline friendly foods that are ALWAYS pretty cheap are:
1.) bananas-you can usually get a decent bunch for about $1
2.) bagged frozen veggies-all you do is boil them for a few minutes in water
3.) oatmeal-generic tastes the same as Quaker, and there are lots of flavors-and it is good for you!
4.) dried spaghetti and spaghetti sauce
5.) Popcorn
One food that are cheap that you really want to avoid because they are TERRIBLE for you are those cheap ramen noodles...they have enough sodium in them to choke a horse, and have no nutritional value at all.
