Well, if it's any consolation, pup might have been lost for some time before finding you, and that's why his condition is poor. I lived out in the country growing up (well, still do), and for some reason or another, our house was like a lost dog beacon. We have had to relocate numerous dogs throughout the years. Mostly beagles. FYI, if anyone reading this wants a beagle, please realize that they are total nose wanderers who WILL get lost away from home if there is any slip in due diligence; however, you may come pick them back up at my family's home in a couple weeks time after they have gone missing. It's insane. We'he had dogs show up from all over the local country. Since it was rarely a neighbor's dog, the only option you had was to put it on the radio and in stores and hope some one noticed.
So, home may not be that bad. Pup may have just been wandering for some good time before he came across a helpful and friendly face.
