Healthy eating does not have to be costly.
Dry edible beans are a great source of protein, cheap and versatile. Seasonal fruits and veggies. Watch for sales. Quiz your local grocery stores on when they put meat on sale. My local Wal Mart puts meat on sale early on Saturday morning. Score!
Things like canned diced tomatoes, fresh shredded zukes or yellow squash can bulk up things like tacos, spaghetti, omlettes, soups, stews, casseroles etc.
If it is at all possible, garden, grow your own. Even if you live in an apartment or condo, you can patio garden and score a few fresh veggies.
Lets just say you buy a $5 bag of apples that contains 15 apples, that's 15 snacks. How long will one $3 bag of chips last as snacks?
Another thing, is you do have to spend some time in the kitchen, slicing, dicing, shredding, etc. You do really have to prep and cook! The good news is, if you plan it and take just a bit of time one day a week and plan and prep, it's not that hard.
I set aside Sunday afternoon as my time to slice, dice, shred, portion snacks, etc. That way my fruits and veggies are all ready for the week to toss into snacks and recipes.

It only takes about an hour.
While you are working on getting healthy yourself, sneak this good stuff in for your family as well!
