Default New Year, lets keep everyone modivated

The New Years "Gym Craze," has begun..Today as I entered the gym, I was greeted upon with what looked like a watering hole in the desert....Almost every machine was taken, more people were signing up....As agverating as this is, its also modivating....

It makes me want to work harder, and not nessessary show off, but try and encourage people around me to push themselves harder...Anyways...we all know alot of people get discouraged after the first month or two and I was thinking we could use this board to share some tips that'll keep the Newbies at the gym, encouraged...

Heres mine: Based on personal experience, I find that having fitness goals, rather then weightloss alone, keep me more modivated to stick with excerising

I definitely have more fitness goals for the New Year! But OMG the New Year rush makes me want to stay away from the gym until February!

It started by you already?

I like to be available for people to ask questions, and I always want to be open and give others advice. I find that now that I look fit, people ask me a lot of questions

The only frustration I have with all of this is when people want my results in a blink of an eye. When I describe the hard work that went into losing weight and/or getting stronger and stronger through lifting, people just seem to dismiss it and say it's "too hard." It's fine to think it's too hard, but don't expect to see the results then!

It is aggravating when th gym is crowded, but like you, I'd rather see the newbies stick around rather than drop off. I've inspired a few newbies at my gym to stick around, and I hope I can do so for some of the newbies that are inevitably going to join up soon. Getting fit is such a powerful thing for oneself that I would hope as many people as possible can experience it

I agree with lockitup, and I have myself to worry about for now, one day I would like to help other people reach their goals too.

I'm actually dreading this. I'm all for people getting on the weightloss band wagon but my gym is too small as it is. Hopefully they join Lifetime or LA Fitness.

This EXACTLY.

I am almost hate telling people I have lost weight, etc, anymore. No one wants to hear (or believe...) that I counted calories, wrote down what I ate and moved my body. The end. It is almost getting to the point where I can sense their resentment and suspicion, as though I am lying or that I am just "lucky". Ugh.

I don't go to a gym, but I agree that setting a reasonable goal and working towards it really helps motivate me. My biggest problem is that I tend to loose interest once I acheive the goal. The idea is to keep at it...LOL.

I agree the gym was full today. I've gone several days this past week so the kids can use the indoor pool. This was the only busy day.
