Default Should I put off breast reduction/life consultation?

I haven't budged much on the scale in the 8 years since I gained weight - my good intentions have never gotten me very far ...right now I have a great friend who really wants to help me - and is helping me with sugars and carbs and recipes and she goes to the gym with me when she is not working - I have a huge family event in 6 months - and I really want to make a dent in my weight - I know I can NOT have breast reduction surgery before then - but was wondering if I should get a consultation now - or wait and see if I actually lose weight before summer rolls around? I was 36C for years and then after kids / weight I went to 40DD and my low back is ALWAYS hurting. Plus it makes me look so "matronly" and well, they are heavy and I don't like them!

Hi chickadee2. I couldn't tell you what you should do - if it were me (which I so can relate regarding the back) I would see how long I could push the date until I lost the weight I needed to lose, unless my back nagged me relentlessly.
My answer is like this because my mother had breast reduction surgery years ago and I don't think she was at her desired weight when she had it done.
To get the consultation they may want to see you physically as close to how you wish your stature to be right before the procedure. I guess you could do it twice if the docs are that easy going though. I wish you the best in any decision you come to.

No reason not to have a consultation, its not like they will strap you to a table that day for it. You would just be talking about the possibilities that are available to you.

I agree - no reason you can't have a consultation now. I would definitely tell them about your plans to lose weight though. There may be something they can recommend as well to help you with your back pain in the meantime.

You might be surprised how much losing weight can make a difference in your bra size. I went from a 40D to a 36C. I'm not saying this will happen for everyone, but it's possible.

Vex - I'm always curious to know how weight loss affects sizes on people. I was 36C forever - and very thin. Then after the weight I'm a 40DD, I wonder if I lose 50 pounds - how it might affect the boobs.

weight loss can really affect breast size...when my younger son was born and i weighed about 250 i wore a 42D or 42DD...my regular size was 38D before he was born...as i lost the weight i lost ALOT of breast size i'm down to weighing 185 right now and i wear a 34B...actually i'm wearing a 36B only because i cant find 34s that i want to wear (too frilly n stuff around here)

and i'll tell you what, there is a HUGE difference between a 42D and a 34B lol

You might want to make sure you're wearing the correct bra size before taking the plunge. Check out http://www.bralessinbrasil.com/ for measuring tips

Weight loss can really change your breasts! I was busty before and now I'm not. I can actually go out without a bra if I wear a baggy top! I could NEVER do that before I lost weight!

I would go ahead with the consultation but I wouldn't have the surgery until after you get closer to your ideal weight. I as a DDD from high school all the way through college, prior to being overweight. After kids/weight gains I went up to the G - I range. But when I started losing weight my breast were the first to go. I'm now a D cup which is the smallest I've been since I was 16 and I'm still not as small as I was before having kids.

I would wait till I lose some weight. It doesn't seem to me like you had big breast to begin with so It might be mostly fat. I've always been a 36b, kids and weight gain put me as much as 38-40D. Now that most of the weight is gone Im back to 36B again. What I'm trying to say is that you might not have that much breast tissue to get a reduction.

If you don't already know which surgeon you want to use, then this is a good time to have consultations with any number of doctors until you find the one you like. Then, when you are ready to have surgery, you'll already have that research out of the way and will be able to move forward more quickly.

But if you already know who you plan to use, then I'm not sure what the benefit is to see them now. It may cost you a co-pay or go against your deductible. You'll need to see the surgeon again when you commit to the surgery. Although, seeing the surgeon now may help you to decide whether this is an option you want to pursue...

I guess if it eases your mind to see the doctor now, or provides additional information to your decision making process, then go for it.
