Not according to the protocol. You can have as much lettuce as you like tho. It is unlimited.

Well I have been on IP for about 4 months now and have lost 51 lbs, I have followed it strictly expect I have never measured my veggies raw and I'm sure I eat over two cups at a serving of cooked vegetables. It's working for me, but I also only eat 1 or 2 restricteds a week.

There are restricted and unrestricted packets. We are only supposed to have 1 restricted a day and 2 unrestricted. I have measured veggies every time I eat except for the lettuce. If you don't have a protocol sheet you can find it posted somewhere buried in here. I will try to find it

Since the topic was veggies, my guess is she meant "occasional" vegetables.
On the phase 1 sheet, some vegetables are listed as occasional (two per week)

Some packets are restricted (9g or more net carbs), and some are unrestricted (8g or less net carbs). You should be having one restricted packet and two unrestricted packets every day. Unless you are someone who is extremely carb sensitive, there's no benefit to NOT having one restricted item each day.

RE: veggies - calorie and carb-wise, going a teeny bit over on your measurements for veggies won't kill you. BUT this diet is about more than calories and carbs. For one, the diet also takes into account the pH balance of your body and the foods you are eating. The measurements of allowable veggies DO help keep that in balance. For another, the diet is about learning portion control, measuring your food for better awareness about what is going into your body. Not measuring is not really setting you up for how carefully you need to balance your foods in Phase 3 and maintenance.

This is where I get confused.I eat a bar each day this is restricted. Correct? For other restricted I do not have any of those. As far as I understand It is ok to have one restricted a day. It is easy for me.
My IP coach said I could have as many veggies as I wanted.

You are correct on the restricted products.

You cannot have as many veggies as you want in Phase 1. Many coaches change the rules of IP based on the rules of OTHER diet plans. You will find as you read the boards that not all coaches really get into the science of the diet to understand it well. In Phase 1, you need to follow your sheet, end of story - measure your veggies, have unlimited lettuce only.

Hate to tell you but your coach is wrong or as far as IP she is wrong. IP protocol sheet says 4 cups of the unrestricted veggies a day. Restricted veggies no more than 2 times a week. Lettuce, all you want. There are coaches who make up their own rules as I have found out by being on this site.
All I can tell you is that I follow protocol and I am losing consistently.
Now, some people choose to either eliminate the restricted item completely or replace it with a unrestricted item for less calories. I love my bars and am not willing to let go of them just yet. I look forward to that afternoon snack so much! Don't know if this confused you or helped.

Don't hesitate to ask questions!! You can have the restricted veggies (one cup up to twice per week) - I love tomato and take full advantage of that The sheet has 25 years of research behind it. If your coach is telling you something that is NOT on the Phase 1 sheet, trust the sheet first.

Also, make sure they gave you the most recent version of the Phase 1 sheet - it was updated in June 2012:

frd2all - ask, ask, and ask some more! That is the only way I got the info needed. I just nod when my coach tells me something that is not on protocol
and then go back to my sheet but there is very little that they tell me that isn't correct. They want me to have lettuce at lunch and dinner and sometimes I just burn out on it and need a break. There are coaches on this site and they have helped me so much! Scorbett got me through the beginning weeks! I dont think that I would have made it without her and Wuv!!!

Hi again, please don't confuse what I said earlier about eating over my 2 cups of veggies, I still only eat 2 to 2 1/2 c per serving I measure my veggies cooked and the sheet definately says raw, this works for me but each person is different, but as sorbet says this diet is very scientific and it does work, you will get yours dialed in and as they say just follow the sheet and you will be fine.
