I'm getting my very first smartphone ever! I'm super excited! It was upgrade time on my plan, and although it's a couple behind, the iPhone 4 was free, so that's what I got. I'm used to having a totally basic phone that just makes calls and texts, so this is a big upgrade for me. Tell me what apps to get, preferably free ones. What's are your favorites of any kind?
I use myfitnesspal and I know they have an app so I'm excited for that, but I am very behind on this technology, I need help!
Congratulations! I'd say that if you are comfortable with myfitnesspal you might have less of a learning curve if you used the myfitnesspal apps.
However, I really like mynetdiary (for iPhone and Android). The food and exercise catalogues are extensive and seem to be a better fit for me than My Fitness Pal. It's easy to customize your target calories and it automatically adjusts as you lose weight. I like the way it syncs to the Web version so you can track at your desktop too. There is a free version but I ended up using the $3.99 version to get the barcode scanner, body measurement tracker and recipe editor.
I used to use Lose It! but I definitely prefer My Net Diary.
I tend to love my hypnosis apps- about sleeping better and relaxation. If you really get into it, the relaxation part almost feels like a massage. Also, the flashlight app is a great flashlight whenever you might need one.
Some of my favorites:
Instagram
Netflix
MapMyRun
My Fitness Pal
Soap.com
Amazon.com (TROUBLE)
If you like This American Life, the app has all the shows they've ever done. DH will walk the dogs for hours just listening to TAL.
Weather Bug Elite
NPR Music
ShopShop (helps keep track of shopping lists)
My most used app:
1. Lose it (I use it to track my daily calorie consumption)
2. Facebook (they sucks, btw, takes forever to update)
3. Tetris (I know I sound like a nerd here, but sometimes you just need something to kill time, right ;-))
4. Chase mobile app.
And if you like to take pictures, mayb you should install instagram. I didn't try it but my sister loves it.
I like the MyFitPal app because it of the barcode scanner and the fact that it synchs up with my fitbit info, too.
My most used apps include:
Words With Friends
Scramble
Pinterest
Facebook
Bejeweled Blitz
Google
Internet Movie Database
Breaking News
AT&T Uverse
Kindle
Angry Birds. So addicting. And keeps me from snacking. I also like Words with Friends, Scramble with Friends and Hangin' with Friends. I have a Kindle Fire...so I also have books.
Yay! I held out for a long time on the smart phone thing, but I admit, this thing is pretty handy.
My recs:
Onavo [does some data compression voodoo, so you use less on your data plan]
Runmeter [anti-recommendation for RunKeeper, which crashed on me all the time in the middle of my runs ]
Period Tracker [for the ladies!]
Zen Brush [when you're feeling artistic]
Amazon Kindle [I don't have a Kindle, but I like to download free Kindle books and flip through if I have a spare moment here or there]
My most used -
myfitnesspal
facebook
weather channel
Pandora
endomondo
fooducate
zyrtec allergy cast (for the pollen forecast)
waze - traffic and gps
southwest - can check in with it when travelling
groupon & seize the deal
And I loved the couch to 5k app when I started running
