Default Eating back calories?

I've been on a 1500 calorie diet, and have been doing 80 minutes of exercise a day as well as strength training. Trouble is by the end of the day after my last exercises, I am starving! Is it a bad idea to eat back exercised calories? I am currently 330 lbs so I don't want to be eating too many.

you should be eating enough to fuel your body, you don't want your body to think it's not getting enough and go into storage mode.

I believe you should listen to what your body is telling you, maybe you need to eat differently before you exercise?

best of luck

1,500 cals is very low for your current weight, so you'll likely continue to lose weight at a good clip even if you eat back your workout calories.

i second freelancemomma,

You should never feel super hungry like that, and with as much as you are working out I would think that you need more than 1500. But anyways, I don't eat back the calories I've burned all the time, but if I am hungry like you then I would definitely grab a healthy snack to have. Also give protein shakes/drinks a try too!

I'm 219'ish - work out (train/cross train w/ swimming, running, spinning, cycling, etc.) 60 minutes or so 6 times a week and eat 1800-2000 calories a day.

I can't lose a dime when I eat 1500 calories.

I was also thinking protein shake with milk and maybe something to "chew on" to go with it for chewing satisfaction (carrots, fruit, other raw veggies). Another good post workout snack could be cottage cheese and fruit. I would eat between 100-300 calories if you feel extra hungry after working out.

I always eat back my exercise calories. I focus on NET calories. If I eat 1500 but then burn 500, my net is only 1000 which is way too low. The only time I won't eat back my exercise calories is if I am not hungry. But that is rare since usually after working out I can eat a horse.

I think it will be safe to eat back your workout calories until your weight goes down to 150 lbs. I am trying to eat 1500 cal. per day not eating back my workout calories. but still lose weight as long as I stick with 1500 a day but you probably need more to maintain your BMR to begin with.

I am curious, is 1500 a number that you set for yourself or a number that was set for you?

I try not to eat back the calories I burn. That said, I eat more calories than you and workout a lot less than you do. I think you should have about 2,000 calories a day and see how that works for you.

Great advice here from everyone! Some times After working out for 2 hours I feel a little hungry myself. What i do is eat apple sauce; which is only 90 calories. Then I go right to bed! For me; I workout starting at 10pm and this way; I will be too tried to eat anything and head right to bed! Also I set my calories for per-day at 1650; however, I never eat that much! When I try to eat that much (1650); I just get sick and vomit it back up! Therefor I eat 3-4 times a day. The most I notice I can eat is 800-900 and not get sick. I am checking with my doctor about this problem; because I never been a big eater; and I really have not changed my eating habits. the only difference is that I workout 7 days a week.

Again, my advice for you would be; to have a snack that is no more then 130-200 calories and this should hold you for the night.

Best of luck to you!

Holy Moly! You are exercising waaay more than you are eating and if you are hungry, I'll bet you need some food. Protein fat, cqrbs...something healthy and balanced and nutritious. Nuts would be good. Avocado smooshed and put on some whole grain bread with a couple slices of lean turkey or ham. Make it nutritious and filling and you'll likely feel much better.
