1200 calories is a lot of food (if you choose good food)
I plan my meals every night before I go to sleep, and lately I've consistently hit the 1200 cal (give or take 50 cals) and been entirely satisfied!
Yesterday I had:
-A sundries tomato wrap with shredded chicken in a little thousand island dressing and romaine lettuce
-A cup of sugar snap peas
- 2(!) babybel mini goudas
- a venti sugar free soy milk latte
- BBQ pulled chicken, cheese and mushroom stuffed red pepper
Cals: 1271. Carbs: 81g fat: 57g. Protein: 86g
Today:
- pesto garlic wrap with BBQ pulled chicken, cheese, mushrooms, romaine and a little thousand island
- a cheese string
- a cup of sugar snap peas
- a venti sugar free soy milk latte (I have it for breakfast since I have morning classes)
- turkey burger with a slice of cheese and slice of tomato and some.....thousand island dressing (this stuff is so good)
Cals: 1194. Carbs: 70g. Fat: 54g. Protein: 96g
And I'm totally full! yay for learning to eat well
Sounds like you're planning your meals around foods you like, which is crucial, IMO. Well done.
I agree with LockItUp, though. It takes a lot more than that to fill me up. I remember my mother, who had an iron will and maintained her figure until the end of her life, telling me that she could eat twice as much any day of the week (and she ate well). I guess I inherited her appetite.
Looks like you are satisfied because you are getting in enough protein too, which is very good ...I weigh less than you and I could never eat just 1200 cals...I have a big appetite ( which is how I got overweight in the first place huh? haha ).
I also plan my menu the day before, it is so helpful to keeping me on plan.
The food you're having sounds delicious... I'm a big fan of eating things that appeal to YOU... and making that work for YOU... Looks like you got that covered... way to go... ENJOY!!!
Unfortunately that would be enough for one, maybe two meals for me. Not nearly enough volume or fat for my body. However I'm glad it is working for you, that's what counts! (and the volume issue is totally one of the reasons I fast in the morning ).
For me, 1200 calories is enough that I don't feel crazy hungry. I keep trying to stay at 1200, but I often seem to need a little more for comfort - then I have to ask myself if I am supposed to be comfortable while loosing weight? I eat a lot of lettuce, cucumbers, veggies etc. to make my plate very full. In fact, I think the plate I use is intended to be a small serving platter. I wish I had a dollar for every head of romaine I have consumed since I started this program.
What kind of thousand island are you using? Is it "diet" or just portioned regular? I am not too fond of low fat/low cal salad dressing, so I am always looking for the perfect dressing.
Those look like good meals. I like some volume to my meals so I usually fast in the morning, have a moderate sized lunch, a snack in the afternoon, and a biiig dinner full of veggies. I am struggling with getting bored with it though so I'm looking for new things to try... the pulled chicken sounds good. I'm still nursing a baby so I need a lot of fat and protein to make good milk.
I agree, if you're smart about it, 1200 is plenty of calories to leave you satisfied. But if you're not, it can be a ridiculously small amount (like if you're eating sweets, chips, and fast food!).
I've noticed that too—if planned well, 'only' 1200 calories can be fulfilling enough. Well, not 'enough' if you do heavy exercising, of course, but enough for, say, an average day of office work, or something like that.
Looks like for you like for me, protein is key, too. ^_^
*If* I plan it right I can usually get by on 1200 easily (but again I'm a short person), but 1400 seems to be where it's "enough" and that I get my protein and not feel overstuffed or starving.
So my bragging turned around at bit me in the butt, no turkey burgers the fiancé didn't thaw our ground turkey. Chilli rubbed pork loin instead with a zucchini and mushroom stir fry. I also -had to- eat something when I got back from the gym, I had the shakes from working out too hard, so I tossed in a cup of astro fat free sugar free yogurt.
New total:
979 cals (low, I'll probably have another yogurt to bump it over 1k)
71g carbs
28g fat
91g protein.
Sweetie, you'd be okay even if you needed an additional meal worth of energy. Consistency with calorie balance (or deficit) is what is important, if your body demands more fuel after a workout there's nothing wrong with a few hardboiled eggs and an apple, I promise, even if it brings your calorie total up closer to 1500
