Are you incorporating strength training into your exercise? If people soley due cardio or don't exercise at all, they actually lose muscle. I lost about 15 pounds (and on someone who weighs what I do, that's ALOT) and had JUST started to see a difference. Once I started incorporating strength training, that's when my body started to shrink.
I started taking two sets of measurements, one with the tape measure taught, but not tight, and the other as tight as I can pull the tape measurement.
I actually started taking two measurements for myself after noticing that my hubby's belly wasn't getting smaller as he was losing weight, but it was getting squishier.
I also noticed in myself that my hip measurement wasn't changeing. I've lost ten inches in my bust, five inches in my waist, and only 2 inches in my hips (and I'm thankful for the 2 inches, because for a long time there was no change).
However, this didn't really make sense to me, because I'm wearing jeans two sizes smaller. And I was wearing one size smaller before my hip measurement changed at all.
For a long time the measurements weren't changing, and I never thought to take a "tight" measurement. I think it's like the difference between a teddybear with medium-packed stuffing and tight-packed stuffing. The bear's dimensions don't change much if any, but some are squishier than others.
Since taking the two measurements, I've found that the tight measurement is shrinking much faster than the normal measurement. I don't know if this means I'm going to have a lot of loose skin when I'm done, or if the loose measurement will eventually catch up.
I like the teddy bear analogy. Now I'm going to have to take tight measurements. I notice I look different, but in some places the measurements haven't changed much. I definitely agree with the weight lifting thing, too. Because there is a definite difference in my body composition since the reintroduction of weight lifting.
I lost about 70 pounds and the measurements only went down an inch or two and and in some areas there was no change at all. Now all of a sudden I am not losing weight like I use to but the inches are sure going down. So apparently my body does not know how to multi-task.
Same here. Pounds, no inches. Inches, no pounds. I'll always take inches over pounds though.
I find the same thing. One month I seem to lose more pounds than inches, then the next month more inches than pounds. It happens with my body fat % too; one month like a 2% body fat loss, the next month like .1%, or nothing.
Sometimes I think it's just the inaccuracy of the measurements, sometimes I think it just takes a bit for both to reflect the loss simultaneously.
I figure if I'm losing weight, I'm getting smaller, and if I'm weight training I know I'm not losing muscle, so the weight I'm losing has to be water and fat, which means inches are coming from somewhere - or at least will eventually. That's my logic anyway.
P.S. Kaplods - I LOVE THAT IDEA. I will be stealing it immediately.
