Default TMI but can we talk about gas?

So I was doing so well on my diet until I hurt my foot - I'm not gaining but I'm not losing vrey fast either. That's fine - I will confess that since I hurt my foot and not exercising as hard - (other than swimming a lot) - I have cheated. Here is the the thing - I used to eat chocolate almost every day - almost like a craving - an addict - my body really needed anything chocolate. Once I started this diet - the first week was hard and I did crave sugar until one day I realized I didn't crave it - how cool! Fast forward - the couple of times that I cheated on this diet - (slice of birthday cake, and ice-cream on vacation...) - each time I cheated - I had pains on my left side under the rib cage - I'm guessing it is gas pains ...I've never had gas pains other than when preggo - and it was in the same area. I take Gas-X for it and it seemed to calm down. I feel it now and then but am not concerned about the discomfort - just interesting how my body reacts to "junk" now - I know this is TMI - don't ask why I felt like sharing!
ETA: not only does it give me this gas type pain but it also makes me feel really horrible - not horrible like guilt but horrible like it makes my body feel almost sick. I think that's cool actually - because after 2.5 months of a diet - and only have "junk" a couple of times - I know I don't want to feel this gas pain and I dont' want to feel sickly after eating sugar - so I really will have no problem saying "no thanks" in the future!!

Maybe it is your gallbladder flaring up from eating rich foods. I know mine flared up while I was pregnant, and also if I eat a rich meal. One time I ate an authentic Italian meal with ALL the trimmings and the some. I ate all of my spaghetti and meatballs, cheese bread, olive oil soaked garlicky bread, some of the ex husbands food, and then genuine tirimisu, topped off with a few bites of cheesecake and then chocolate ice cream a couple of hours later. Talk about SICK. I honestly thought I was dying. Turns out it was a gallbladder attack.

I also got gassy when mine was flaring up. However, I think the gallbladder is on the right side. I still felt it hurting anywhere under my ribcage though. Hmm.

I don't know where the gallbladder is. Thought about talking to my family Dr. about it but then would feel silly if it's gas? So how did your gallbladder attack turn out? Did they remove it???

It does sound like gallstones. I have them, and fatty liver ... which makes me feel sick (while the stones are painful, the liver lets you know you are being one bad girl if you stray!). For me it started up five years ago and I still have my gallbladder.

You need to avoid fats in your diet .. cut out chocolate, eggs, high fat milks, cheeses etc. Ideally there should only be 5 grams of fat in any meal .. which is not a whole lot and meant learning a new way of cooking.

Having fatty liver meant cutting out things like coffee. You do need some but tea would suffice .. but no fizzy drinks especially cola.

And do take it to the doctor. From what you say you are experiencing pangs but they can escalate and you really need to avoid a full blown attack if you have gallstones. It is not just a case of pain and discomfort. A gallstone attack can be dangerous.

How do they confirm you have gallstones?

Pain in the upper right part of the abdomen is sometimes gallstones but an ultra-sound can confirm a diagnosis.

zthanks Ruth - whatever it is I have - is always on the left - and it's quite near the same spot as when I was prego - and at that time the Dr. said it was gas. That was 10 years ago and I've never had that pain since - it barely comes and goes. I have never taken Gas-X in my life - but I have tried it and it seems to make the pain stop. Glad to know it's not on the right where gallstones would be.
