I'm back from our 3.5 week long vacation (and I disappeared a few days before that due to having to organize and PLAN for such a long time away from home!)
All is good. It was a great vacation and restful and an energy boost to me and wanting to continue on with this journey.
Of course, I gained during vacation, but that's OK. What's good is that I came back and jumped right back to good "new" habits. I'll be back to where I was before you know it!
Lots to share but it will take time, but wanted to say I'm back!!!
Uh oh, the family Croatia trip. I hope it all went well!
Actually, amazingly well. There were blips, to be sure and MIL was her usual self-absorbed self, but all in all, it went fairly well. I will have some stories, but it's pretty good - mostly. Which is more than I hoped for, to be sure.
Looking forward to some of your stories. And maybe a picture or 2?
We have 3175 photos from our trip. My husband is weeding out the bad ones and will create a slideshow. I don't even know where to start with posting photos as we saw so many amazing, beautiful places.
Coming back to reality is biting me... Laundry, cleaning, cat litter, band camp started today, blah... but, clean eating two days in a row and I'm going to the gym for a class tomorrow.
It's hard coming back, let me tell you! Not the eating part or the exercising part, but the 'rest of life'. Like working. I work from home on my own time.... now that is HARD to make myself get back to it!
Vacation really was grand. It started rocky and got better throughout. I guess better to have it that way. Our first stop, besides a one night stay in Zagreb, was Biograd. The sleeping arrangement there was not great. Yes, it could sleep 5, but not in an easy way.
We suggested the two kids (15 and 7 year old boys) share a queen bed, my husband sleep on the couch and I would sleep on the chaise part of the couch with the footstool pulled up to it to make it long enough. I was HOPING my MIL would offer to share a bed with the little guy..... Nope, she kept the queen bed to herself and made us 40 somethings sleep in the living room like that. Needless to say, I didn't sleep well for that week.
Next 10 days we slept in two apartments on Mljet. She was hinting around that maybe the 7 year old could share our bed or with the teen (he was on a full size, SHORT convertible sofa - where he had to sleep sideways to fit on the bed - he's 6'2"). BUT... in this case, she had made arrangements for this island and we had decided before going that if she made arrangements with not enough beds SHE would have to share her queen size bed. She actually liked it, so it was ok.
Then we spent 6 nights in Dubrovnik. This place had one room with a queen bed, one room with two long twins and a roll away bed. Again, she hinted at maybe SHE getting the queen bed? What? The rollaway was supposed to be for the teen to put in the living room, but it was a very, very short rollaway, so we put it at the foot of our bed in the one bedroom and shared a bedroom with the 7 year old while my teen had a twin in the room with his grandmother - he didn't care as long as he didn't have to share a bed. Sharing a room, OK. Sharing a bed, no way.
That was the worst of it, really, weird sleeping arrangements as traveling with 5 people of 3 generations isn't the norm, obviously, but it all worked out in the end.
Glad to hear it all went relatively well. I know you were concerned mostly about the sleeping arrangements before your trip. So, if that was the worst of it I say "well done."
Welcome back to the real world.
Congratulations on not conveniently "forgetting" the MIL somewhere...
NOW you tell me!?!?! Man, there were so many places and times I could have done that! Unfortunately, it's her country and language. She probably would have found us eventually anyway.
