day two here, and i'm feeling so anxious and overwhelmed. i'm sure that this will be worth it, but it's just looking like such a long and expensive road ahead!! so much of my social life revolves around meeting up with friends for dinner or drinks and my boyfriend and i are passionate foodies-- i'm just afraid that it's going to be a huge hit to my social life, which is barely existent to begin with on top of four jobs and a lot of stress.
i just don't feel great and i'm dreading the weeks ahead. i'm hungry and cranky and have been super light headed and exhausted. my coach told me the plan would be a bit more difficult at first because i have the additional challenge of being highly allergic to gluten which seriously limits my options, and i'm not sure i'll be able to get enough carbs/calories/deliciousness to have the energy and spark i need to be happy and healthy! just don't think i can manage feeling miserable for the foreseeable future.
any words of wisdom? any gluten-free success stories out there? also, it sounds stupid, but was cutting alcohol out a big deal for any IPers? is going out while still sticking to the plan and resisting temptation a real possibility?
thank you so much for your advice and support. it's been a rough day.
Just take one day at a time the first week. I cried for the first three days but by the 4th to 5th day it gets so much better. I love this diet and it has been so easy now. This forum is sooo much help so read as much as you can. Sorry, I can't help you with the gluten allergies but someone will. You can't cheat on this diet or it won't work. My coach told me if you cheat with food it can take you a couple days to get back into ketosis but drinking can knock you out for a whole week! Ice water with lemon is good! Hang in there as you only need to lose 30 so it should go fast for you. Good luck!
I can't speak for the gluten-free side of things, but I just had my first "socializing" experience this weekend since starting IP. We were used to hanging out with folks and a couple of beers, and lots of food. I had to own this process and not let the outside experiences own me. It wasn't easy, but at some point I accepted that my social life revolved around the PEOPLE I am with, not the food or drink. I planned ahead, had water while everyone else had an adult beverage, and stayed 100% on plan. It's not easy, but it's a choice you have to make for yourself.

You really just said what I was thinking. As to the OP saying they were light-headed, I used to have that too. I would just stick my tongue in my sea salt container and treat it like an aspirin. Sounds silly, but not getting enough of that sea salt can cause headaches. Also, make sure you drink tons of water.
I've been on the diet since June 21 and am now to the point that I have accepted what I am supposed and not supposed to eat. I am even making my 'famous' cheese dip for a birthday party and already know I won't even lick the spoon. But, I will have a delicious restricted bar while making it.
My dear hubby is Sicilian. He shows his love through food. He butters my bread. We had at least three cocktails a night and always ate at 9 to 10 pm every night. ie huge weight problem! Since this diet I a. Don't want to drink b. let him fend for himself (he's lost over 5 lbs and doesn't need to) and c. Tells me I'm starting to look like the girl he married. I would much rather hear that than him buttering bread for me ( I don't even like bread) plus it has pretty much cleared up my alcoholism. This is a great diet!
thank you so much, everyone! i'll take all of your advice to heart and try to stay positive through this first week. i so appreciate all of your feedback and encouragement!! looking forward to continuing on this journey with you.

Hang in there!!!
I'll second the salt suggestion - last week I had a day when I was feeling really fuzzy headed...realized I hadn't been very good about my salt the previous 2 days. Our bodies get depleted of electrolytes because of the restricted eating and the large amounts of water, and salt helps restore those balances. Once I stopped being shy about the salt I felt MUCH better.
Also, you can have a hard boiled egg or add a couple of egg whites to your day without going off plan, your body is going to get fuel from burning up the fat stores but adding protein will keep you from losing lean muscle in the process.
You can do it! I am in the same boat. My circle of friends is always having happy hour or cocktails by the pool, but I have set a time goal for myself. I am staying strictly OP until Labor Day.
Keep in mind that this is not forever. You can do anything for 30 days or until you reach your goal. You're worth it!!
ah, bighorn that brought tears to my eyes. thank you!! we'll do it together!! and yes, i think salt may be one of the culprits. just stuck my tongue into my salt shaker and am already feeling noticeably better. i'm going to get a good night's sleep and try again tomorrow!
The first week Sucked for me too. I also lost thirty pounds. I had a headache and was lightheaded and had a dizzy feeling for most of the week. I was kicking the carbs. You can do this. Give it a few weeks and you should feel better. I know I did and do!
The first week without my nightly glass or two or three of wine was tough! It was such a habit....but I decided I needed to do this and follow the plan 100% and it got easier. Now, after 13 weeks, I like not drinking though I do look forward to having an occasional glass of wine in maintenance...but I don't want to have it be such a nightly habit.
Good luck! The first week is the hardest but when you see your loss it will be all worth it!!!!
Alcohol was definitely tough for me. We also go out a lot, and our friends all drink. Doing ip in 2011 was the longest I went without drinking except when pregnant!
It will be tough. Go to restaurants prepared to order ip food. Don't give in to the though of just one bite or just one .... It make sticking to ip harder!
It is a choice to make-weight loss and skinny jeans or socializing and being unhappy with how you look and feel. The quick weight loss helps motivate to stick with it. There will always be another happy hour when you are done. Trust me!
The first week is definitely the toughest-- but since you know that it will be, you can push on through!
I was really worried about the socializing aspect of this plan, but it really hasn't been much of a problem. I think it helped that I got into a groove with the plan, and didn't go out until about two weeks in. By that point, I was seeing major losses, and that scale motivation is unlike any other.
For me, sparkling water in a wine glass is enough to make me feel like I'm still having happy hour cocktail, and I feel great about myself when I leave. That "no regrets" feeling is very motivational. You can do this! Keep telling yourself the hardest part is temporary and the food and booze will ALWAYS be there.
I've been out with friends to several HH and dinners in my first 2 weeks and drank either club soda or iced tea. I was not bothered by either and was happy that my bill was less than when i was drinking alcohol. Just have fun with your friends. If you have the time, check out the menu of where you are headed and plan your other meals accordingly. Be prepared for surprises when things are not listed on the menu e.g. garlic mashed potatoes (Sat) and fried onion rings (Tue), cheese in the house salad (Tues). I just offered them up to my fellow diners (which made them happy also). You can make it to your first WI!
