Default Nearly 40, new to 3fc and lots to lose

I have a lot going on this year, my one and only child is going into her SR year of HS, I turn 40 in a few months, I have recently gotten back into photography that was always a love of mine since elementary school, trying to change careers, thinking about going back to school and having to keep my husband on track with his medical issues.

We are a retired military family my husband has always been healthy, maybe a little overweight but never that much. He could eat anything, drank coke like it was water...well scratch that he just had an eternal coke pouring into his mouth. He recently found out he has diabetes. My daughter was diagnosed with PCOS earlier this spring after years of me trying to get a doctor to listen to me that something wasn't right with her. She has her meds helping her right now and has lost 20 lbs in a month and fairly easily now that her hormones are regulated. My husband is now bound determined to get off diabetes meds at his 3 month check up. So our house has become VERY healthy this past month.

I have tried for years, since I had my daughter, to get back into shape but with junk food always in my house, stress of deployments, depression, no motivation and no support at home. I had pretty much given up But with my family finally needing to do this for their health We have joined a gym ad my husband no longer brings junk food in to the house, neither want to go to fast food anymore. I feel I can finally do this...I have the support and the motivation at home. The depression started subsiding after getting back into photography and my arts. I've been doing so much for the home and my daughter that I quit doing all the things I loved.

So that is my long story...I am so happy that my family is finally on board..now I can get this over 100lbs off me. The gym is also something I missed a ton. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! and our gym has a cinema in it where you can stay on the cardio machines as long as you want. Lots of cardio done lately.

Hello. So glad you are here!

It's great that your family is also motivated now to get into better shape also. This is a great place for encouragement and support.

I am into photography too! Have recently been working to develop my skills.

You will find there are many different types of support and challenges on this website. Peruse them all and subscribe to some permanent threads so you have lots to read and start meeting people. Its only been a little over a month for me too – still getting familiar with the site… You will find tons of support in different threads. One that I find fun is a 40’s Chat Thread. Its starts new each month I think the tread this month is 40 Something August Chat.
See you around and good luck!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Just got back from the gym with my daughter. I am trying to work my way up to jogging by doing it for a minute at a time while walking on the treadmill. it is a rough start but at least I am trying

Misti in Seattle-I majored in photography in college then got out of it when I had my daughter. I recently have gotten back into it. I am very much into B&W film photography but darkrooms are had to come by now days but I have found a photography club that also has a darkroom side club for those of us "darkroom junkies." I do some digital...Photography is one of my favorite things in the world aside from my family and my animals...well any animal

Hi Onmiwei... It's fun to find another photographer on here! I am far from being a professional but a few years ago became close friends with a professional photographer and he has taught me a lot. I bought a good camera and professional photo printer. I'm definitely into the digital stuff and learning to jazz up the pix, etc.

I am still here...I just had a big blow in my life. The day after I wrote this my dad had an accident. He has a seizure disorder and is not in the best of health or the worst of health either...but he likes to do things like he did when he was younger. 4 years ago he fell off a ladder trimming trees and we have told him repeatedly to not ever do that again...well he did. This time he did not survive. He fell head first on a log trim around the lawn. My mom was not home. When she found him he was life flighted to Boise. I made it there the next day. We turned off life support on Thurs and he died Friday night. He also broke his back in 3 places along with his lacerated brain. So I have no been exercising and I believe I have a good excuse for that. We haven't been eating that much and trying to eat healthy when we do. But diet is the least of our worries right now. I'm still here though..
