Default Hair thinning?

So, I'm a little freaked out as I've noticed on the right side of my head, and only the right side, the hair on my scalp has thinned out. I'm pretty certain it has a lot to do with dieting, which makes me wonder, am I eating too little? The wrong things?

I don't limit fat in my diet at all. The only things I limit are carbs and calories. Carbs I keep under 100g a day, calories I keep around 1300-1350. I'm really worried about this, because I don't want it to get worse, but I don't want to stop my diet when I'm only 20 lbs away from my goal weight. Are there any preventative measures for this? Things I can do to help it grow in again that don't involve bumping my calories back up?

I experienced hair loss when I was on a very low calorie diet that I'm not allowed to mention by name on this message board. I found that adding B vitamins to my daily regimen was helpful. Biotin is specifically what I heard is important, but I found this B multi and I've been taking it ever since. While 13-15 hundred calories a day doesn't seem that low by dieting standards, calorie reduction can affect people differently. You are reducing the nutrients your body is used to getting. Usually hair loss is temporary.

I can't imagine why your hair is thinning more on one side than the other. Maybe you touch that side of your head more, run your fingers through your hair? Maybe you sleep on that side? There are medical reasons people lose hair, so if you don't see improvement over time, consider seeing a doctor.

It doesn't sound to me like you're restricting your calories enough for hair loss to be an effect, but you can check with your doctor. It's possible that the hair loss has nothing to do with your diet.

I agree with freelancemomma. If it just started recently there could be a whole other problem. Go to the doctor to be sure.

I've also been losing a lot of hair. Mine is all over, though. I have started using Folicure shampoo and conditioner and it has been about a month and my hair is starting to look fuller. I have also been taking a few different vitamins which I think might be helping, too.

hair loss can be related to thyroid problems... regardless of the reason, it's probably a good idea to get checked out to make sure your health is in order. Good luck!!

Yikes - my hair has been thinning badly too but I thought that had something to do with me going into menopause. It's got dramatically worse over the last 6 months so maybe a trip to the doctor is on the cards for me too

I have been experiencing this as well. Not sure if its the weight loss or my changing hormones (in my 40s now) but it can be kind of distressing to see so much hair coming out in the shower. However, it seems like I have some new hairs coming in because I seem to be growing some "baby hairs" that I can see in my bang area. My hair is just different now. Very dry and prone to fall out and breakage. My hair used to have more luster and was thicker.
