Default Food Tracker?

Hi All,

I'm looking for a food tracker that allows you to enter your meals and compare to your daily requirements by food group (i.e. vegetables, protein, grains, dairy, etc.). I've searched and searched on the internet and websites like Spark People, Calorie King, etc. only seem to allow tracking by nutrient (i.e. carbs, calories, fat, fiber, etc.). I did find one on the USDA website, but it's list of foods was limited and it doesn't allow you to add your own.

Do you know of any?

I'm bumping this thread up, because I'm really interested also. I did a search for Exchange Tracker to see if a thread like that existed. I follow an exchange plan (basically what you want to track) and would love an on-line tracker - on the surface it sounds so easy. Much easier, I would think, to create than a calorie counter and there are many of those out there.

such as?

I've found a lot that track calories and micronutrients, but none that track by exchanges or food groups, as OP is requesting.

I asked a similar question a week or so ago, and I'm still looking.

Someone did post in my thread that there are some inexpensive iTunes apps for ipods, ipads, and smart phones... but I haven't found anything for pc yet (maybe the iTunes apps will work on pc's - I hadn't thought to try that).

I've read that software by Nutrigenie (I think called Diabetic Meal Planner) does this - but the software is $59 and it isn't reallly clear from reading the description that it actually does track exchanges, so I'd hate to buy it and find out that it doesn't).

I also have found none online. I have also searched iphone applications. There are exactly 3 (that I found). One is for dieticians (not sure what exactly that means - but it doesn't appear to actually be a tracker), one is to track nutrients for PKU and one looks like it is exactly what we want.... however the reviews are horrible. The app cost 99 cents and the reviewers are upset they spent the money on an app theyjust had to uninstall.

I found that caloriecounter.about.com is the best when you want to compare calorie intake against standard requirements. There's a section of the website where it will break down your calories by carbs, fats, proteins, sodiums, potassiums, fibers, etc. There's even a graph that will tell you how far over/under the bar you are, for the visually-minded.

I am new to 3FC so I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this link. But I use an amazing tracker that I think is exactly what you are looking for. It can be found at the following site:

choosemyplate.gov/SuperTracker

Please let me know if this is helpful. I love that it will track your refined grains and tell you what are empty calories. Best Tracker I have found so far!!
