Unhappy 30 Day Shred-Jillian Michaels

Hi everyone! So I bought this DVD the other day and decided to try it tonight. I am wondering if any of you have tried it? I couldn't do it all the way through. Is this meant for people who have already lost weight and just want to tone?? I haven't worked out in forever which is part of it I'm sure. I just kinda feel like a loser (not in a good way) that I can't even do a dumb 20 minute workout DVD....

Hey don't feel down! Honestly just follow along the best you can and move in some other way during the parts you can't do.

The beauty (and problem!) of exercise DVD's is that they are always the same. So by doing it over and over you will become good at those moves eventually.

When I first got my windsor pilates DVD I couldn't even do the modified moves for the 20 minute DVD and I couldn't sit up for days afterward I was so sore and didn't even do the whole thing!

Now I could do that DVD in my sleep it is sooooo easy for me!

The whole key is to exercise and it is actually GREAT that you couldn't do the whole thing!!!!! THat way this DVD will provide you a great workout for longer.

Look at it this way, if you had a DVD full of moves you could easily do, after just a few uses your body would adapt and you'd burn practically nothing.

The fact that this DVD was so hard for you means that you will build muscles just by trying to do it. Also, I am terribly uncoordinated but I figure even if I"m going the wrong way as long as I'm moving I'm good (you should see me at Zumba class....Dance skills clearly I do not have!)

I haven't done it in a couple of years, but I do remember it as being a good work out, especially with 5lb hand weights. I used to do it on alternate days, mixing it with running, so I was probably in decent shape when I started. I should dig it out and try again!

Thanks Pepino, you're right, I wouldn't want it to be easy. That would probably make me mad that I wasted money on something that didn't benefit me. That's a great way to think about it.

I am far from in good shape and have many more pounds to lose. I have been doing her ripped in 30. I was in so much pain the first five days. I do over half of the moves on easy modified but I am doing them and thats all that counts. Keep at it. It will get better and so will you.

I did it once and made it to the end, but I had to stop in the middle of several of the sets. It is a pretty intense workout! Do what you can, stop and rest when you need to, and you'll get there. If it were easy, you wouldn't be getting any benefit from it.

I run 3x a week and do Jillian yoga 2x a week, so I'd say I am in pretty good shape. I was pretty sore the next day and my calves were giant knots. (I put it away after that first day because I was gearing up for a race this past weekend, and couldn't work around the calf soreness. I'll try it again next week.)

it is an advanced workout, but that's ok! each time you do it, do what you can and every time you do it add an extra rep or 2 to the exercises. you could even make it a 3 month rotation and do level 1 for a month, level 2 a month and level 3 for a month. you will build strength and endurance quickly.

It was hella hard for me when I first started out. For some reason, I was able to do level 2 better than 1 (while I was looking up 30DS, I came across a post suggesting to start with level 2 because for some reason, it was easier than level 1 and for me, it was.)

Keep at it, it does get easier! I had to pause it a couple of times the first time I went through it, but I was doing level one hardly getting out of breath after a few weeks. Just imagine Jillian standing over you, yelling at you that you do not quit on her watch!!

I'm not brave enough to even order that workout!
I have Joel Harper's Firming After 50 coming in the mail this week.
I'll post after I try it ... if I can lift a finger, that is.

Good for you for taking on a challenge, gracesmomma! Like the others suggested, modify the workout till you get stronger.

Good luck!

I've been doing this workout every morning. It's rough but keep pushing. I just started level 3. I can't do it perfectly yet but I know I'm still getting a great work out in.

I was doing it before I injured my knee, and the first few times, I barely made it through! It started getting easier the more I did it (obvioiusly) and then had to stop when I hurt my knee (doing something else, not the Shred lol).

Thanks y'all. I guess I'll keep pushing through. I think also, it was a wake up call and a little depressing to see how out of shape I am. It will only get better from here right ?
