How accurate really is the BodPod?

  • I said when I got to my goal weight, I would try out the bodpod to see what my body fat percentage is. (Goal is under 25%).

Well, today while I was at orientation for my new job, I saw in the activities handbook that there is a bodpod testing for $55 on July 7th or something like this. My goal is to get to goal by the time we leave on vacation on July 17th. So this is perfect!

I know it's probably silly to pay money to find out a body fat percentage, but when you are not a light weight... I kind of want REAL affirmation that my body fat is good - as the scale will always look high (or maybe it shouldn't?) Ack!

Anyway... how are these for accuracy? Anyone have it done?
  • I've not had it done, but I've thought about it, and if I had the opportunity to do it for $55 I definitely would! I don't think there is anything that is going to be perfectly accurate, but from what I've seen & read the BodPod is supposed to be one of the highest accuracy methods out there.
  • Echoing chickadee - it's one of the higher accuracy methods. And it means you don't have to get dunked underwater or something! I got to go in one last year, it was a cool experience in itself so I definitely recommend it if you have access to one! (My reading was 31% at the time - I'd love to get another test to see how it has change since I've lost ~15 pounds since then!)
