So tonight my family and I decided (for what reason I'm not sure) that we would have fast food for dinner. I think I was just so tired that I didn't care tonight. Well, my favorite was pizza from the Hut and my husband and daughter got some stuff from BK. Well, after 1+ weeks of eating healthy, somewhat whole foods, our dinner tasted like $^&%. I mean we got absolutely no enjoyment whatsoever from that food. It was disgusting, you could almost taste the preservatives and chemicals.
Has this ever happened to anyone? I consider this a good thing: if I find the old food nasty, then I won't want to eat it. never in my life have I had some pizza and wished I had made a salad instead.
I guess it goes to show you what your body wants/needs
This will happen if you stay on plan long enough. And it is a good thing. When you realize that the old foods just don't hold that much power over you, you become that much stronger. Fresh delicious foods just can't be beat! Yay for good food.
Yep, I no longer will eat any fast food other than Subway subs and an occasional McDonald's Egg McMuffin. You can't make me eat a fast food burger! eeew! and yuuuck!
I haven't eaten chain fast food in ages. I think the last time, I got a baked potato at Wendy's while traveling to visit my parents last fall. Even the smell when I walk by doesn't appeal much.
Otoh, I still love pizza, onion rings and fries from a local place. I wish I didn't. I think it's been at least 2 months since we ordered though. And take out Indian food still tastes wonderful to me despite all the fat and sodium.
I just had this happen last weekend too. We were at a concert and I knew there were going to be chips on all the tables. Chips were a big weakness for me in the past. I even allowed some calories knowing that I would eat some. I had a couple and they had very little taste - thought they must be some cheap no name brand. My daughter was working in the kitchen and I went and asked and she showed me the brand and they were the kind I used to eat pretty much daily. I could eat a whole big bag in no time.
It feels good to know that the healthy food is winning!
Sounds like a good thing to me . I hope it happens to me as well, as I've started on a whole foods plan also. I think I've read somewhere that some studies show that it takes 3 weeks to shift your taste buds completely when you're eating a new diet, so I'm looking forward to that shift!
As for fast food, I have not entered a fast food place in years. A big part of that, though, is because I've been vegetarian and now vegan for a while and fast food places are so notorious for not being veg-friendly (lucky for me). I think the last time I entered a McDonald's was in 2004!
I've never liked junk food or fast food (with a couple of exceptions), even as a kid. The downside is that my old fattening favourites are still my favourites: French cheeses, creme brulee, Belgian chocolate, sushi, etc.
I know what you mean, the thought of a chippy makes me cringe, but I reckon most people have an exception that still tickles their tastebuds. Mine's pizza - proper takeaway REALLY bad for you pizza!
What I like is that when you switch to rarely eating junk it really tastes like a special treat and you appreciate it that much more .
well, I must admit I love junk food...but since I changed my diet some of it tastes nasty and some has even made my stomach hurt! I don't eat at mcdonalds or burger king, but every once in a while I will have a burger from Five Guys and Fries or what a burger. Once you eat healthy, you can also taste the salt in other foods..and soda, yuck! to sugary!
It is a good thing it tasted awful now you will associate the negative with the food you once thought was so wonderful, but not good for you.
For me personally, I thought Burger King smelled good. Today I drove by and thought, "what is that awful smell" and then realized it was BK!
You know what I found I don't like anymore which kind of bothers me? Sun Chips! I know they're "healthy" as opposed to healthy, but I always loved those things!
I like to walk to the deli and buy a drink on my lunch break when it's nice and then sit in the park. I saw a bag of sun chips and hadn't eaten some of my snacks so I thought I would substitute that for them. Well I sat down in the park to eat it (cheddar, my favorite flavor) and BLEH! All I could taste was the grease!
I wound up throwing the bag away I won't be eating Sun Chips anymore.
