Good morning and Brrrrrrrrrrr! it's only 28ºF here this morning and my poor new pansies may be toast. I did get my new car yesterday and her "maiden voyage" was to the plant nursery. It's so much fun to have a shiny new vehicle with new bells and whistles. I need to read the manual about some of the stuff though such as hands-free cell phone use and changing the radio station without letting your hands off the wheel.
Today is a semi-normal Hump Day: gym, yard "lads" coming to rake, pet therapy with both dogs noon to 2, and the start of the baking marathon for the weekend. Cookies, pineapple cakes and several maple syrup pies are on the agenda. I plan to at least get the cookie doughs made today. Don't worry about my sampling - I manage baking just fine with my glass of water, SF gum and surgical gloves.
That's about "it" for today. I think tonight is Idol so I'll probably have an early bed time as I always doze off when I see Ryan Seacrest. I watch it only to see what outrageous outfit Tyler is wearing.
Hope your Hump Day is just a gentle up and down slope. Have a mug of Vanilla Biscotti before your day starts.
Oh, Ruth...I'm not sure I could've put plants in my brand new car!! LOL...not that I'm a neat person or anything. What's a maple syrup pie? Kinda like a shoo fly pie?
Had a crazy hair (for me), and yesterday morning decided I'd go to a town 45 minutes away to see a limited release film, "October Baby". I even had a friend go with me! It was great. I think it's funny I barely ever go to the movies, and then I spend 20 bucks in gas to get there! Very moving film, if you're interested.
Today is hopefully a shorter day at work. I guess my thighs are sore from swimming yesterday, but I may still try a run/hike if I have the time. Otherwise, it's DH night off , and martial arts for the kiddos.
Have a great day!
I think I might go make yet another batch of red bean and feta with pepper salad....
Vanilla Biscotti coffee? Yes, please and thank you.
Ruth, I do hope your pansies survived the night, but they are pretty tough plants. I've had pansies make it through a snowstorm just fine. Maple syrup pie sounds, um, interesting. Does it taste similar to our Shoofly pie?
Tammy, I confess that I've never heard of that movie, but I'm glad it was worth the extra expense for you.
My short day today. OK, I only get home 1/2 hour before I normally do, but still. I'm looking forward to watching Survivor tonight although this season hasn't been as good as the previous ones. And tomorrow's my Friday already! Whoohoo!

Wow you guys are up early, funny this is a late start for me. I am off today, but normally up at 3:45 for work. I do find I have more energy with less coffee. Ruth, congrats! The hands free for the phone is a great feature, my car has it too. The pansies are usually hardy and should be fine. I hope I am not rushing it, but I am going to plant some veggies and strawberries today. My car is going in for service today so it's a great reason to stay home. Might take the bike out for a short ride, been spinning through the winter but missing my outside rides.
I got up to pee three times last night... resulting in a little whoosh that brings me back to my pre-roadtrip weight. This afternoon my mom and I are taking a tour of the new LDS temple nearby; they are open to the public for a few weeks. I'm also planning to "study" more from my store's website. So many new clothes to learn about! Going to "rice" some cauliflower to eat over the next few days. Tonight I'll top it with an Asian shrimp dish. Off to drink some Airborne before my tea this morning since I can't decide if my allergies are bothering me or if I'm fighting a cold I picked up on my trip.
Ruth, I know, BRRR, right? I hope your pansies make it. Congrats on getting the car finally! On my spiffy rental car, I discovered the radio changing buttons by accident that is pretty cool.
oh and wearing gloves during baking...what a brilliant idea to not taste!
Twynn, glad you enjoyed that movie!
I am guessing that a maple syrup pie is similar to a pecan pie?
Cottage, I hope your extra half hour is nirvana to you
CyndiM what do you have planned, after your coffee?
jekel hope you get your veggies and berries planted, AND have time for a ride!
Karen - YAY for your whoosh!!
I HAVE to make myself go to the family homestead today, to re-start going through my Mom's stuff, it's been one year (and one week ) since she passed and I can't put it off any longer. Well at least I have my Forester back, to load up. The last time I was there, my uncle was 'helping' me cram things into my little car, and he stupidly says "next time we do this, you're going to have to get a bigger car" and I was so angry/sad, i said "Um, I'm out of dead parents, this isnt' going to happen again!" Bad me.
I've been up taking care of everyone! Lift off in 22 min. taking mom to her eye appt. I talked DH into going, he's been in a funk lately. I've had my smoothie so rarin' to go.
Ruth, congrats on the car!
Cyndi, as always! I think of you many times during each and every day.
jekel, congrats on your p1 WL so far!
Holly, sending supportive thoughts as you continue to sort through family stuff. (I'd have said something, too!)
Back from the gym and my pansies are fine. Maple syrup pie is basically syrup brown sugar and eggs baked in a crust. Sometimes there is meringue on top. Purists insist that raisins or nuts are NOT allowed. My Dad used to insist it be made with syrup from maple trees on the north side of the Upper Lake - he was a syrup snob.
