I just watched my husband lose weight and get in great shape.
He was never really that overweight to begin with. I guess at one point he weighed 200, but mostly 180ish. Now he's in the low 170's and all muscle. He is my age, almost 50.
Anyway, the point of this, is what can be learned? I know, some say its easier for men.
But here is what he did:
1. mountain biking, 3-4 times a week (that is really hard, believe me)
2. elliptical, 30 minutes level 10, most days
3. outdoor work
4. all organic food, vegetarian diet
5. one drink a day, no pills, no smoking, no vices
6. recorded everything on lose it, just got the "dedicated badge"
I'm not sure really how long, probably more a lifestyle change. I was thinking, how's he get that commitment? I have such trouble with that, although Ive slowly stopped gaining and am coming down a tiny bit.
that is great for him! About his organic, vegetarian meals, did he prepare them? or you? would you be able to take on that kind of diet? and would you guys be able to do the working out activities together? It seems to me that if you two could do the same routines (food and exercise) together, it would be a 'we're in this together' thing.
We shop at a health food store called Mother Earth, every week. We buy beans, soy milk, earth balance, greens, fruits, nuts. He makes bean burritos, organic fish sticks, mushroom burgers, salad with peppers, tomatoes, red onions, croûtons and ranch or organic blue cheese. I usually make whole wheat pasta, and vegetables.
Yes we do mountain bike together, but I am kind of afraid of it, took some falls. I am learning to be "locked in", and that has taken some practice. We also ski together. He does the hardest trails they have, sheeshhhh. We also hike, hiking is more my favorite.
We have a Cybex and a treadmill. So in answer to your suggestion, yes we do activities together. I don't know what's up with me. I have a tendency to binge at night. Okay time to hit the Cybex. Does anyone have Cybex? Its a kick butt machine, better than an eliptical. He bought it off e-bay, and I had a client give me the treadmill, a good one too. I can burn over 600 calories on the Cybex if I can survive 50 minutes, lol.
Yeah, I see you had the same SW. We used to go to a lot of restaurants, so that was 10 pounds, and then I gained about a pound a year, and I was headed up another 10 pounds, from I guess just eating too much.
Yes, locking in is your shoe snaps in to the pedals. It helps you to go up hills, and holds you to the bike. Its just learning that's hard, but of course all the other mountain bikers (known here as "Fats in the Cats", (fat tires in the catskill mountains, yeah my husband can always find a unique activity ), would laugh at me if i wasn't locked in.
Can a picture be posted from your phone? I do it on FB but don't know if you can do it here. I have a picture. Yes, that was my rottie Damien.
