I feel like my life is CRAZY and there's just not enough time in the day. What, with going to college full time and working 5 days a week a long with taking care of my horse I just feel like there's not enough time for everything. I don't belong to a gym so I either run in my neighborhood park at like 8 or 9 at night or super early in the morning. And I try to work it in about 5 days a week, but with finals almost here, it's getting really tough. It's just so dang hard juggling everything and trying to get good grades in school and staying on top of everything at work. And because of this I have no social life what so ever which is really sad, but there is just no TIME.
So sorry for my little rant lol but what do you to fit in your weekly exercises whatever they maybe while being in school?
i am a full time college student, i work full time, and i am married and my husband and 3 dogs take up a ton of my time. i have been making excercise one of my priorities. i do it no matter what, every day, but i do it right before bed, at like 9:30pm, and walk/jog for about an hour. it gives me time to clear my head too so i tend to sleep better
I'm also a full time college student (8 classes), but I don't give myself a choice if I'm going to the gym or not, I just am.
I bring my gym stuff with me to school, so if we get out of a class a bit early I can go during my lunch break, or else I'll go to the gym on my way home.
It makes my days long but my health is just as important to me as my grades.
My finals will be coming up soon, and then I'll be working out more at home, or running outside because it will take less time than going to the gym
It's not easy, you just have to manage your time well
I've started getting up at 5:30 in the morning and going before work. It was rough for a few days, but now I'm so chipper and awake during the workday!
Exercise doesn't need to be long or in the gym for you to benefit.
When I was in grad school full time and working full time it was tough, but I made exercise something I HAD to do. There just wasn't an option for me to skip it at all. That meant that work, class, homework, etc. was schedule around gym time.
Normally you don't skip class or work to catch up on things, right? Well make the gym just like that and suddenly you'll find the time to do all the stuff you need to
Hi eveyone! its been so llloonnnggg since ive been on here but i got 40 pounds left to lose and its gotta go! i decided to start here since i work 48 hours a week every week so cowgirl i'll be sure to keep you up to date on how i do it. lol i'm going to start jillians ripped in 30 today. i just look at it as added work time, something that just has to be done. If i dont look at it like that i probably wouldn't get out of the bed to excersize at 5 in the morning on one of my 12 hour days !
I am blessed/cursed with underemployment, and only about to jump back into the whole grad school deal, so I'm sure I'll be able to relate to you better in a few months.
For now I'm just lazy! I do some long haul slogs every week running and sort of dread it each time. I really have to psych myself into it on some days.
What works for me when I don't want to move/don't feel like I can spend the time is HIIT (high intensity interval training).
Put on your tennies, and go outside. Depending on where your cardiovascular fitness is at, find a nice safe flat running area, or a hill.
Looking at your watch, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN for one minute. Seriously sometimes I do this and flap my arms and pretend a bear is after me. The first minute won't be so bad, although you'll probably be checking the watch around 30 seconds to see how much longer you're going to have to do this.
When you hit your minute, jog really slowly for the next minute, or walk if you're really pooped. Because when minute 2 rolls around...
RUN RUN RUN RUN LIKE THE DICKENS!
Repeat this until you get to minute ten, alternating your high intensity cardio and slow recovery periods, and congrats, you just did your heart a whole bunch of good.
You can tailor your HIIT to your own fitness level. I started with a different ratio (30 seconds of CRAZY, one minute of pooped). Whether or not you use a hill to add resistance works to tailor the workout as well.
The goal is to get to the heartpounding edge of intensity for your cardiovascular system. You don't need to stay at that edge for too long, and you can always repeat to yourself that the whole thing is going to be over pretty soon. Caveat: Please please consult with a doctor before starting an exercise program, and please please start slow and move up in intensity so you can find the edge that you are comfortable with.
HIIT is the only thing that has improved my mile time. I have been running 20 odd miles a week for years at the same pace. After a few months of HIIT, I suddenly feel like my legs are jet-powered. I feel like I have an extra liter of lung space or something.
The first two years of grad school I ignored exercise altogether.
Year three, I realized I was graduating and I wanted to start taking better care of myself. I started using exercise as a break from studying, papers, and thesis CRAZINESS.
Even 6 10 minute breaks a day can help you space it out - and knowing how to forgive yourself if you only do 2, or 1, or zero. Exercise should make you feel better, not worse.
All of your posts make want to push myself into working out consistantly. I seem to go through spurts of some weeks running almost everyday and others i'm lucky if I get one day in. Though I really do love exercising it just sometimes get put on the back burner, but if all you can find the time I guess I can too. I prefer to run at night, thankfully my commuity is safe so I can do it with out worrying about being attacked or something. I'll just have to push myself to do it even if i have to run at 11 at night
I don't always. Sometimes I have only a lunch break window to squeeze in a couple miles or running or walking. Some days I'm too lazy to do it. I find that I feel gross and sort of guilty if I miss too many opportunities, so that's pretty much my incentive to take that 60 minutes and go to the gym a 2 minute drive from my house.
