Default Suggestions for a VERY Picky Eater?

Hi everyone!

This is my first time posting on this forum. I've tried countless general Google searches with no luck, so I thought I'd give this a shot.*

I am an INCREDIBLY picky eater. And, of course, it's always healthy stuff that I can't stand. For instance, I absolutely hate fruit. I can't stand to even be near it. The sight, smell, and texture are all nauseating. It's like nails on a chalkboard. I've tried to force myself past it, but I just can't. I do like some vegetables (namely peas, green beans, carrots, and corn) but can't eat anything like that raw. I don't like *salad. I also can't stand the texture and look of wheat products, so that takes out the healthy versions of all of my favorite carbs.*

Lately, in my attempts to lose weight with my incredibly restricted menu, I'm just looking for low calorie foods. I generally eat a lot of chicken (grilled, baked, and lunch meat - I also like pork an turkey but haven't learned to cook it yet), pretzels, microwave popcorn (no butter), crackers, cereal (small bowls of fruit loops or rice crispies generally) and canned soups (only tomato and chicken noodle).*

Foods I absolutely love but *trying so hard to cut back on: red meat, cheese, potatoes, noodles, rice, bread, pizza, fried chicken, chocolate, and soda pop. I've been thoroughly addicted to pop but have been successfully cutting back. I've tried cutting it out completely before and I end up binging.*

I'm also allowing myself occasional days of fewer restrictions because I know myself: if I completely avoid the foods I love, I'll snap after a couple weeks. I also become incredibly difficult to live with.

I'm going crazy from lack of good food and a variety of it. Does anyone have any suggestions for snacks and meals for someone with the palette of an incredibly picky toddler? Because that's about where I'm at!

I know the answer is that I need to learn to eat healthier foods. But I've been down that road a a million times before. If I rely on changing my tastes and idiosyncrasies to lose weight, I absolutely never will.*

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!*

That makes it very difficult.

Have you tried making smoothies? You can use a frozen banana and come cocoa powder to make a "chocolate shake". When I make them, it reminds me of a wendy's soft serve (YUM).

I personally love fries, so I will take veggies (butternut squash or sweet potato) and cut them up in french fry like pieces, spray with PAM, season and bake until somewhat crispy (another YUM).

Also kale chips end up tasting like popcorn. I was baking them in the over until recently when I got a dehydrator. Dehydrating makes kale absolutely delicious!

I hope you find something that works for you. I sympathize because all of the foods that you can't stand are what our bodies need.

Good luck

Hello,

I am also a extremely picky eater & I always have been! I absolutely hate salad & the site, smell, and texture of banannas make me vomit:-/
Do you like lemons? If so, you can drink lemon juice & warm water every morning...it doesn't cause you to lose weight but it stimulates your digestive juices & gets everything up running smoothly! Also you could try stuffed bellpeppers...stuff them with whole wheat rice, ground sirloin & blue cheese or mozorella. You will never even know it's wheat rice!! I hope some of this helps!! Also, for the sweet tooth you can freeze fat free cool whip & eat a couple spoonfulls & it will help. PLUS....you want feel so guilty!!

with wheat rice, try making chicken fried rice! thats one of my favorites! and chocolate/strawberry/banana smoothies totally get rid of my sweet tooth, i agree they are just like wendys soft serve! if you really want to be fooled, freeze a big smoothie like ice cream and just serve it scooped like ice cream.

Red meat is not unhealthy as long as you eat lean cuts and good quality mince.

Also, try diet pop - maybe it will reduce your cravings! I don't particularly like it but drink it when dieting.

BTW, Fruit loops NOT healthy - have you looked at the sugar content let alone all the colours and flavours? Rice crispies only slightly better - try and find a whole-grain cereal you like.

I'm also a very picky eater- mainly when it comes to vegetables. Do you calorie count for your plan? With calorie counting, you should be able to lose weight by eating whatever you want, granted you stay in your calorie range. It works for me. I try to eat healthier, so that I can have more energy and have bigger portions, but if I budget pizza into my calories, I still lose and continue on. Not saying you shouldn't try to be healthy, but I think moderation and calorie counting goes a long a way, and you can try to eat more veggies and fruits as you go.

You could try cooking veggies differently. I hate onions, but if they are chopped fine I can usually ignore them. I hate cooked celery and broccoli but can eat them raw. I'm also not a salad fan, but I do love ice berg lettuce (just the head of lettuce without spinach), not as healthier as it could be, but I figure it's better then nothing. I suggest just playing around with them, making trying some you haven't tried before. There is also a fruit V8!

You should probably take a multivitamin since you might be missing out on important nutrients.

Also, have you tried eating some of those things you hate recently? I figure it's a good idea to retry foods every couple years because you might grow to like them!
My bf until very recently HATED eggs, but now he enjoys them! I used to hate oatmeal and now I love it! We just had to figure out ways to prepare them slightly differently so that we could like them.
