Default What being sick does to your weightloss goals

Pardon the TMI So last week my whole house was hit with stomach flu. The night before I woke up with it I had eaten some sundried tomatoes (the kind packed in oil) which were very yummy. Not only did I have the runs but of course I felt like throwing up and all I could taste in the back of my throat were those tomatoes. If I never see another sundried tomato again it will be to soon.. In fact anything with alot of oil or butter now turns my stomach and makes me gag. Because I had the runs and didn't want to worsen the dehydration I also gave up my extra sweet morning coffee. Now if I try to make my coffee the usual way I flash back to last week's illness and feel grossed out. And of course when you are that ill you don't feel like working out either. So I feel like my body is now rejecting foods that really greasy which is a bonus but it has really disrupted my exercise routine which is a negative. And no movement on the scale despite the fact that when I was ill I wasn't eating much except plain toast. I think this is because while I was sick I was semi starving myself and so was ravenous once I got over the illness. How has illness affected your committment to your weightloss goals?

Oh gosh - honestly, it's KILLED so much for me - this past month has been such a struggle - more so than when I started last June.

At the end of February I got bronchitis - for a MONTH - I was on three different medications for a sinus infection & chest infection I just couldn't kick. The anti-biotics wreaked havoc on my system.

I was so depressed, I couldn't work out, I let my eating habits totally slide. It was awful. To be not a total failure, while I was sick to at least so something active, I walked about 3 -5 miles/day. I finally started light workouts about a week ago and it's slow progress to be honest. I could hardly complete a workout that I used to be able to kick butt in. I know it will come back, and more quickly than when I started but it would have been so easy to just give up completely after being sick.

On a good note, this last bout of crazy illness has prompted me to finally finally kick the smoking habit once & for all that I've had forever so I know there is something positive to come out of it - I just wish it hadn't done so much damage.

Being sick is really hard for ppl losing weight/working out I think b/c you want to take it easy and get well but you don't want to regress in workouts and maybe this is just me, but it's MUCH easier to stick to my diet when I'm working out. They go hand-in-hand...

I remember when I was younger I got a stomach bug after having eaten smoked cheddar cheese. Absolutely loved that cheese, but even to this day I'm a little weary of it.

I actually completely fell off the wagon in 2010 after being hospitalized with a kidney stone. I had a stent in so it hurt to do most exercises and I was always in so much pain that I just ate whatever I wanted as comfort. I started doing bad in school and felt completely helpless to do anything about it. When I was finally better I was still just in a bad place mentally and feeling hopeless when it came to classes, even though I had no more excuses to miss class. That's when I put on the extra weight that landed me at my highest weight of 226 last May. That's when I started on my current weight loss path, and I'm still going strong. Frustrated at times, but never giving up. Sometimes I think if I hadn't gained all that weight that i'd be even further in my weight loss by now, but at the same time weighing that much is what made me get really serious about losing weight. I'm just so glad its over!
