I have PCOS and have been on metformin for 12 years. Thanks to the medicine, I had fairly regular cycles...but every other cycle would contain HUGE clots. Far bigger than what you describe (I'd say golf ball size). I talked to my ob/gyn about it several times and he wasn't concerned since I had no other symptoms or issues like excessive menstrual cramping or a history of fibroids or endometriosis. After I was done with childbearing, I ended up having an endometrial ablation to cauterize my uterine lining...recommended by my doctor to relieve the massive clots. It worked and while many women experience a complete loss of menstrual bleeding after having it done, I simply got a normal flow period after that, but still monthly bleeding...but 3-4 tampons/day on my heavy days instead of 2-3 tampons an hour. So big improvement.
Not sure exactly what your issue is, but thought I'd share my little story so you'd feel a little relieved that some clotting is not necessarily uncommon. Definitely talk to your doctor if you're still passing large clots. But if you haven't had your period in 7 months, then more than likely you have a thick build up of uterine tissue to pass, so your period may be longer than usual. Good luck!!
