Good morning, everyone. Another glorious Spring day is happening and our morning fog is back. I am due to get my snow tires off at 7:30 and need to allow extra time to get to the service station. Driving though a pail of milk takes longer.
Jazz found another escape route from the yard yesterday. From the way his tummy looked, he dug himself out. It was just dusk so I didn't track it down - I was just so grateful that he came when I called him back. So he's back on the long lead for a while - he curses in Russian when I put it on him.
After the tire thing, I will go to the gym and then do pet therapy at noon. Then I'll tackle the escaping dog problem. I'll also finally plant those peas - I prepped the bed and put up twiggy branches for them to climb on. It sure felt good to be doing some gardening.
Happy Hump Day to us all. May your hump be just a gentle slope.
That Jazz is such an escape artist, Ruth! I, too, am very relieved that he comes back when you call him. The next step may have to be putting an invisible electric fence around the yard, maybe? When I next come up there, I'm looking forward to fresh-picked peas on the table for dinner.
My weather mirrors Ruth's, and I even slept with the bedroom windows open last night. Jake came out to the farm and finished making the raised beds, then gave them a good base of composted horse manure. While he was doing all that, I cleaned up the flower beds and planted pansies. It feels so satisfying to be gardening again.
Today's my 'short' day, as I spend the morning at Susie & Ramsay's, and I'll drop the girls off at the riding stables right after school and can head on home. Maybe I can pester Jake to get our beds tilled up so they'll be ready for planting chard and spinach this weekend. My rhubarb is already about 4" high!
Cottage - isn't it exciting getting ready for our gardens?!
Speaking of which, I cleaned mine up 2 weekends ago, and the kale and turnips had survived the winter. They've gone NUTS now!! I might have to have me some fresh kale tonight . My mustard greens are already popping up as well!
I have to finish making the black bean and corn salad for the teachers this AM. I made DD's teacher some homemade granola last night, and made the mistake of tasting it! :O I won't do that again today (I hope)! Then off to a busy but short day of work, and hopefully a run. I was too exhausted after work monday to go..I need to learn to go in the morning when I can.
We've been shattering record high temperatures up here..going to be from 78 to 85 today We usually have FEET of frozen hard stuff at this time; it is just unbelievable. Our yard is dry enough for me to rake today!! which is what I'll do after working out, and the dentist at 10. And of course getting out on the motorcycle.
Ruth - very glad Jazz came when you called him!! I would like to hear his cursing in Russian Yes be careful driving in that fog. Yay to getting snow tires off!
Linda - so nice you got things planted already. I love to plant lots of pansies in containers, I use them as garnish on the dessert platters at work in summer. And every year I wish that I had planted rhubarb the year before, lol.
Twynn - hope you get to get a run for yourself today. What do you use as sweetener in your granola?
and hello to everyone else! ETA hello to Karen...and welcome to ArmyWife (Tiffany) and RedHead!

I noticed yesterday that my digital watch, that I only use when traveling and now at work, is off a day thanks to Feb 29th. I have no idea how to change that so may be off to the watch repair store today after trying to find an online manual. It was hard to fall asleep after work last night despite being super tired, and as usual I can't manage to sleep later, so a nap is in order today since I'm working another evening shift. Fortunately DH is off to the dentist later so that is my window of "quiet time."
Been trying to figure out flying vs. driving for our trip to PA next month and either is going to be very expensive for the short trip. (We are going to help DS1 search for his first apartment for after graduation.) If I hadn't just started the job we'd drive for sure but it's 18 hours each way.
Off for some green tea... yawn... bummer I only drink decaf.
Good morning Morning chores are done and I'm taking a brief break before the next chunk. This morning I'm baking gluten free biscuits for my Co-op work hours. I'll do anything I can do from home but so not impressed with the ingredients in gluten free products. I know I won't be eating any of those.
Ruth - I haven't quite gotten my peas in yet either. Today is the day! A friend also gave me a few baby kale, lettuce and chard plants so I'll have some soon! Good luck with dog escape route patrol.
Cottage - I left my windows open too. I love being able to do that
Twynn - wow, yummy greens for you! I do have a little kale left over, just enough for one salad. The plants aren't worth keeping and will probably go to seed soon (a friend gave me plants she started from her own kale seeds. maybe I will leave those two plants )
Holly - Isn't it amazing out there! Enjoy your yard work and ride
Karen - That's not one of those things that will fix itself eventually. When I had my Toyota I could never remember how to change the clock and some years I just left it. Eventually it was right again
Time for some breakfast for me then biscuit baking. DW is off to work at noon and I don't want to bake this afternoon when it's hot (can't believe I'm saying that in March!). I've been making flax breakfast muffins with the carrot apple ginger pulp from the juicer. I've almost got the recipe just the way I want it, yum.
I was just starting to read/post this morning and my laptop went into shut down mode....updates I guess. Now I'm running behind and have decided I'd prefer to beat DH to the shower. I'd better hurry. We both have rolfing appointments in Denver this morning and need to cross town during rush hour. Leaving earlier would be much better.
We've been perusing our project this morning and have decided that DH will take Bing and the kitty to the other house for 5-7 days. He'll get a needed break and I will be the person to put the finish on the hardwood floor. I've already hired my neighbor friend to do some trim work....she's very good, and I may actually consider hiring my handyman (yardboy) to help me plow through the next floor phase. It sounds doable on paper now I need to decide if I'm that ambitious.
Anyway, have a great day everyone! You all keep ME inspired!
No time for personals this morning, on my agenda today is getting my eyes checked at lunch time and then tonight is DD2 dance class. Other than that just work.
Hey all checking in on my day off. Had a dentist appt. at 10 this morning...why am I still getting a cavity at age 51 but anyway, I am STILL numbed from the Novacaine, 4 hours later. Went outside in this brilliant sun and WARMTH, hunted for half an hour for the darned rake, found it leaning up against something, did I put it there? Heck, I dunno, I've got sunstroke by now it is HOT out there! you will never ever again hear Vermonters saying that about any day in March
Hi you all! Today is just as beautiful as it was yesterday. I never did get my caladiums planted. I accidentally broke my gardening shovel when I tried digging the hole..Oh well...
So, my ratatouille from yesterday was HORRIBLE...I have never had it, so really I don't know what it was supposed to taste like, but I am sure it wasn't supposed to taste like it did.
Anyway, hubby just left for work not too long ago. He is in the Army and we are in Paducah, KY right now. He is doing a three year stint as an Army recruiter. He is not gone nearly as much as he was before we came here, but he is still gone quite a bit.
I am on day 4 of Phase 1, and I love how I am feeling physically. Emotionally, I am a little off, but I really think that is "withdrawal" from sugar. I find that I am really not that hungry very often. I almost forgot to eat dinner last night, and that was even after working out very hard that morning.
I hope everyone has a wondeful day and I look forward to reading how everyone's day went!
