Default Trouble losing weight, approx. 30 lbs away from goal

Hi there,

I am 5'4" - 174.6 lbs (weighed in today!). This week I ate an average of 1400 calories, worked out 3x (cardio for an hour -- I am limited in what I can do due to some major back problems). I have a Bodymedia device which told me my average calorie deficit for the week was around 700 calories. I should have lost 1.5 lbs but instead I gained almost 4 lbs. I increased my water starting Wednesday, I still need to drink more water but I went from drinking 750mL to 1.5L.

My meal plan for the week usually goals a little something like this, cereal for breakfast, snack of baby carrots/cucumbers mid-morning with hummus, lunch is usually a sandwich with a Greek yogurt, then I have another Greek yogurt before going to the gym. Dinner is what fluctuates but it can be something like half a thin crust pizza, sushi roll, eggs, something of the like.

I am not sure what is going on?! What seems to be working before is not working anymore....

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks so much!
A.

Girl, we have very similar stats and I wish I could tell you, as Im up 5lbs this week! I canīt really say why, besides not drinking enough water. I think you should be drinking more like 3l a day of water. And as far as your eating I think you might try switching out your dinner for your lunch and vise versa. I think it is better to eat your heavier calories mid-day oppose to nighttime, when you donīt have a chance to burn them off.

Good luck girly!

I have been doing cardio for a year now.. I get my heart rate up though..

I swear I might have a hormonal issue.. I am definitely going to try to increase my water this week, except tomorrow morning I have a 4 hour meeting - bad timing!!

I also have coffee in the morning with Splenda, and I am thinking of nixing that for a little while and switching to green tea but I don't think those things are going to make too much of a difference.

I am scared to INCREASE my calories because it seems counter-intuitive. But my breakfast is pretty light, maybe eating more earlier in the day is better and less at dinner is a good idea......

Keep the ideas coming.. I will keep checking..

Thanks so much!!

I am having the same problem. I gained about 5 pounds this week while on a 400-500 calorie deficit. Its so frustrating to be doing everything right and not see the results that we deserve. I think maybe you should change up your workout routine. As our bodies get used to certain workouts we don't burn up as many calories anymore. There could be other factors as well like salt intake. If you are consuming too much salt your body will retain water. This could just be a fluke week though. Sometimes we just gain weight for no apparent reason.

Best of luck. I'm sure you will continue to lose weight as long as you stick with your diet and exercise plan and not give up. Congratulations on the weight you have lost so far.
