I'm home everyday so I figure I can walk for 10 minutes then get off and walk 10 minutes again later on and do that on and off during the day until I get to 1 mile. Hopefully that will push my weight loss along and help keep the swelling down. I'm on fluid pills for my blood pressure. I guess this is going to happen in baby steps. Can't think of everything on the first day.

Cudos to you for working thru the pain. Bless your heart. Just curious, did your doctor ok your walking plan or did you just decide to do it on your own.
With regard to you treadmill being in the living room, I think that's a great idea since you obviously have the room. When I lived in cleveland, I put my knock-off Tony Little glider thingy in the living room and I loved it. When I first started using it, I could barely do three minutes, but I eventually worked my way up to 30 minutes. That's about all I could stand cause even watching TV I'd get bored out of my skull. LOL.
Anyhoo, good luck on your weight loss journey. I've been chipping away at my weight for a little over 18 months or so. I stopped worrying about getting it off quickly and just work on my fitness, my diet, keeping my blood sugars in check and being happy as my weight has trended downward over time. To date, I've lost about 77 pounds starting out at 242. I've got about 30 more pounds lose.
I've had a lot of plateaus and a few minor set backs along the way but even so, I don't get discouraged I just step back, reassess and keep on working out. Remember, because you're diabetic, you have to keep exercising no matter what! Just stay focused and you'll get there. Yes indeed!
