Yesterday took a twist from plan when I got called in to work at 545am. I took time for my breakfast smoothie before leaving remembering that my health comes first. I brought DH home a bacon/cheeseburger w/fries and made my own healthy dinner. I was out of my yummy salad and had to take time to make another one, but really wanted that healthy meal. (Kirk ate his burger but I think he was a little envious of my salad, black beans and spaghetti squash).
We have lots of accumulated snow (at least 15") and it's still coming down. After dinner last eve I napped so I could get back up and watch BBall. My team lost but now I can't seem to sleep. Managed insomnia-I'll make coffee and night owl, then perhaps have a book/bed/couch day after shoveling and having breakfast with mom.
I guess I'll start in my kitchen by making a big salad then organizing a bit. I'll take a look through the freezer and see what needs to get used first.
Debbie your snow must be very pretty. We haven't had a major snow fall since November, and it all melted by December. We are pretty much snowless. (and that is ok, it is time for an early spring)
My doctor appointment went good, the second opinion told me not to do a second surgery right now, he suggested I give if a few months and see I get more movement in it. He told me it can take 6 months to a year for the scaring and wound to completely heal up. So I am going to try daily stretching of the joint and see what happens. I don't want another surgery, but if I need one in a few months at least I didn't rush into it.
Juicing, out most favorite drink is Kale, Cucumber, Green Grapes and Granny Smith Apple. So refreshing. We have also done Kale with sweet potato, radishes, Granny Smith Apple, and squash. We have done real good without using a lot of fruit in the mix. We even have some leftover for the next day. (beets are also excellent added in)
I have been reading the buying a bra thread, and now that I know how to do this, I might try finding one today on line. A sale of course would be nice.
We are working on arranging our extra room downstairs, I have so many boxes of yarn that I need to get rid of, I was going to try ebay or craigslist. I don't knit anymore so no need to keep it. We need room for DH latest endeavor. (little chuckle, he always takes everything to the next level) But after this task it is the usual weekend tasks.
I am going to go look for the Taco Bake recipe, and see what I come up with. Need some freezer meals.
Hope everyone has a nice Saturday. (going to grab more coffee)
"Morning" Debbie. I sure hope you are back in bed asleep by now. I've started sleeping right through the night since I quit Melatonin and its wild dreams and started sniffing lavender essence before bedtime.
Chickadee, between your yarn and my quilting fabrics, we could have a huge E-Bay sale. I'm glad your joint is improving and no more surgery is imminent. (I was delighted yesterday at the gym when my PT showed me that my knee flex IS improving.) You'll love having Taco Bake in the freezer. I have four meals in the stash right now.
Strange to have a Saturday with no "musts" but I'm sure I'll find something to fill the time. Right now I have a hunk of corned beef in the crockpot and may ask someone for a casual supper. It's not St Patrick's Day but I do have cabbage and potatoes, something I never buy.
I think Donna is coming to clean today so I'd better finish up the Great Quilting Fabric Sort so she doesn't nag me. We also need to do some shifting around in the upstairs storage as Christmas stuff got put in there Willy-nilly. I have lots of "decor" which I've not used for a couple of years and should label it for a fall yard sale. I guess it's time to stash away the Christmas wrapping stuff which is sitting on Linda's bed. (Nothing like having company coming to get these things out of the way!)
And then there are the icy deck steps. I can't use salt on them but at dinner last night someone suggested my heat gun. I may give that a careful try, trying hard to not set the steps on fire. Poor Disney is afraid to go down the steps to the dog yard although young Jazz barrels down to set her a good example.
Hmm - guess I'll be able to put in the time today! How does your weekend look?
Debbie - That's quite a storm! Ours was fortunately all rain.
chickadee - The taco bake freezes well. As do most soup/chili recipes. I hope your thumb stretching does the trick.
Ruth - Oh yes - that's one great benefit of company, IMO. Be careful!
We still have our little nephews until mid-morning. I'm hoping they sleep a while longer so I can enjoy the quiet I haven't done the bike trainer in several days since my calf started acting up again. I really, really need some cardio and some calorie burn! Not much happening today but tomorrow we are going to a Super Bowl Party. Food porn. Sigh. Honestly, I'd just as soon not go since you can't even see the game (or in my case, the commercials) with a big group, but that would be rather anti-social of me. True confession - I had no idea who was even playing until I asked my husband yesterday!
That's a LOT of snow, Debbie, and I bet it is very pretty. I wonder how much you'll finally end up with? Were there many customers at the restaurant yesterday, willing to go out in the snowstorm to eat? If that were the case around here, the restaurants and stores would be deserted!
Chickadeee, I know you're relieved about your second opinion! I hope in the next few months your thumb will heal completely and you won't have to worry about it.
I'm leaving shortly to drive over to my DD's in New Jersey for the rest of the weekend. If I leave soon, I can have breakfast with my oldest GD, Caitlyn, before she leaves for work. Otherwise I won't see her until she gets home this evening.
Regarding bras, I wish I could remember the name of the ones I wear. They were advertised on Oprah a few years ago, and one of their representatives came to our Curves to properly measure and fit anyone who was interested. I bought several and I love them. But unfortunately I have a habit of cutting the tags out of all my clothes, and now I have no idea what kind they are.
Karen, have fun with your nephews! With having Tyler around all the time now, I'm learning quickly that boys are a whole new ball game! Totally different that girls, ! I don't have a clue or any interest in the Superbowl game either, but I'm sure my son will have it on tomorrow. I'm glad I won't be here.
Ruth, how does that Christmas wrapping stuff always end up on my bed?
WaistingTime--I never know who's playing in the Super Bowl. I didn't even know it was this weekend! I usually watch it with my husband, even though neither of us follow football, it's a good excuse to drink beer and eat hot wings. I guess this year it will be a good excuse to drink V8 and eat...hummus, or something? lol! Maybe it'll be my excuse to make that adorable hummus octopus I've had bookmarked for a week or two.
This has been the mildest winter we've seen in years in Kentucky, with only one snow, about an inch and a half, if that. I think I had to scrape my windshield one time. Too bad...I actually like snow and especially surprise snow days.
I have no idea why I got up at 5am on a Saturday but it feels good, have a great morning everybody!
Good morning! wow, lots of early risers, even on a weekend Once it's summer, I get up willingly at 5 a.m. because it's so pretty.
Debbie - wow, you folks got pounded with snow! Everyone in my work town (Stowe) was envious, we 'need' a dump to help with the winter tourism. But folks still come anyway. Yay to you for taking the time to eat properly even when in a rush!
Chickadeee - I want an early spring too I hope you have success in stretching your thumb instead of another surgery. Oh,regarding yarn; my husband does the marketing/online sales for a yarn dealer, and we went to a knitting/yarn convention last week in AZ, I am not 'into' knitting but could appreciate the beautiful yarns. Even handled some made of soy! He has brought home skeins of yarn to take pics of, and told me how much it cost I had no idea!
Ruth - a heat gun! what a great idea. We also have packed ice on our concrete front steps, we do try chipping/hacking at it but its almost futile. I agree, knowing someone is coming over is a wonderful incentive to get things done
Karen - oh, how some people pull out all the stops for a Super Bowl party! I hope you can easily resist the food porn I never know who is going to play either unless I listen to people at work talk about it.
cottage - hope you have a nice b-fast with your GD
This will be a busy weekend for me at work (my winter job, where i am a deli worker/cashier at a convenience store in a ski industry/tourist town) Yesterday I prepped my butt off (wishful thinking) over 50 pounds of deli cheeses sliced, schlepped whole turkeys and roast beefs across the store to put in the case, prepped veggies, etc. I will be in Sandwich Queen mode today

Weighed in this morning and after one week of phase 1, I'm down 4.6 lbs and Hubby is down 7.6lbs. We are so pleased with the results!
I haven't found the plan to be that difficult to follow. Yesterday was the first day that I actually craved carbs. I didn't have much of an appetite at all though so I settled for a sf latte and eventually the craving went away.
We planned meals for next week and this mornign I stocked up on all the essentials.
Having dinner out with the girls tonight so my game plan is to order spinach salad (minus the bacon & ranch dressing) and pair w/ grilled chicken or steak. Asking for olive oil + balsamic vinegar on the side for my dressing.
Good morning all Slightly rough morning so I'm a little late getting here. Hope you left me some coffee!
Debbie - My best college buddy lives in the Denver area and I"m trying to figure out if he has power today. We google+ chat SU games and there's one at noon
Hope you're getting some rest now.
Chickadee - thanks for the juice ideas. I made Beet-carrot-apple last night with lots of kale and a big chunk of ginger. It was really good. Don't tell Cottage but I'm excited about using the pulp mixed with flax to make crackers today. I hate wasting food. Don't get me started on things that can be dehydrated and added to soup broth
Ruth - I suggest filling your time with reading, naps, dog petting, and some wine later in the day.
Karen - last time I "watched" the super bowl I was still smoking (so more than 16 years ago) and was at a party where we could only smoke in the garage. Conveniently her husband had a cooler full of his homemade beer there. I'm sure the game was interesting but there wasn't a tv in the garage
Cottage -safe travels and enjoy breakfast with Cate and the weekend with DD.
MissusTaterHead - hummus octopus? please share
Holly- Wow, I didn't realize you were all the way up by Stowe. It is beautiful up that way. I once went to a retreat at the StoweFlake, what an amazing place. Hope all the flatlanders are extra nice to you this weekend!
Lynn - wow, nice loss so far. Good planning ahead too, sounds like you've got the hang of this thing.
Not much going on here. Sounds like conference number 3 has started without a hitch and things are going well. Only 1 call so far I'm hoping to get out to a grocery store with a good assortment of organic produce for juicing. Our little local store is pretty limited. I ordered our CSA booty before I ordered the juicer so only spinach and cabbage in the raw order. Darn.
Now that things are calm here it's time to do a weekend chore list. Maybe I'll try that napping thing again. I really need to catch-up on some sleep but just can't convince myself to nap anymore. Maybe I should take up meditation again, that always made me nap
I got 4 more hours of sleep somewhere in between. I made a beautiful salad which will probably last 4 or 5 days. I eat more salad (mostly veggies) when I have it prepped in advance.
chickadeee, good news about your thumb! Oh, now I'm curious about DH's next endeavor. Yay for freezer meals-I couldn't get by without them.
Ruth, I got a chuckle thinking of Donna nagging you to keep up with the fabric sorting, especially that she gets paid to do it. I've been thinking of corned beef...Kirk really likes it. Lucky person who gets invited to your casual supper.
Karen, I don't envy you with the SB party. There is a Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet which is much more entertaining.
Linda, safe travels! Enjoy your time with DD.
MissusTH, thanks for joining us! I rise much earlier than I used to….I think it has to do with not having a "carb" hangover every day. A hummus octopus sounds fun!
Holly, I hope your prepping pays off this weekend. I enjoy that kind of thing. I was fascinated in your bio that you're a pastry person, too.
Lynn, congrats on your WL so far. Great plan for your dinner out!
Cyndi, you cracked me up this morning between the super bowl story and my vision of napping via meditation . Sorry your day had a rough start and I hope the rest of your day stays calm!
Off to our kitchen project then I'll take mom shopping. See ya'll later!
I wish we had some snow here but to no avail...Send some of it DC's way! Taking it easy today. Doing laundry. I might venture out tonight for a movie (we have free tickets from New Year's Eve, when we tried to go see, ironically, New Year's Eve), but I haven't been out in a week!
Good news is that the new meds the doctor put me on is suppressing my appetite like whoa. Maybe I will FINALLY see a loss on the scale tomorrow?!?
No Super Bowl parties for us. I may make some snacks but DW will probably be in bed before it starts. She is a Pats fan and I contend the Giants are the Jersey Giants so I've got no loyalty to them!
Debbie - I was up that early/late! I should have thought to log in here!
Chick - I LOVE the taco bake. But I've never frozen it.
Ruth - Good luck de-icing!
Karen - how can you NOT have heard who was playing??
Cottage - you made me lol about cutting tags. DW does that too.
Miss Tater -
VermontMom - I worked at a deli counter for 2 years. I remember my first week - I came home every night so sick! But I got over it. Good luck with all that meat!
Lynn - AWESOME news!!!!
Cyndi - I hope you can get a good nap in today! You deserve it!
My cat is snoring on my lap! She cracks me up sometimes. TTYL!
Cyndi and Lexxiss--it wouldn't let me link to the hummus octopus because my post count is too low--you cut the bottom off a bell pepper and put it in a bowl of hummus upside down, give it some little black olive eyes, then use slices of bell pepper to make tentacles rising from the bowl of hummus. It is on the Family Fun website; if you Google Family Fun garden octopus it is the first result. I ended up getting some edamame for the SB instead but this is so adorable, maybe someone can make it for a SB party.
Lexxiss, that's funny that you said that because I've been getting up all week before the alarm. I have all kinds of energy and I'm sleeping well at night, too. I just generally feel great. And I'm down six and a half pounds, I got on the scale this morning and was seriously floored!
Good morning all. So today is The Day! I actually thought the Super Bowl was about hockey until yesterday when one of the 'lads" straightened me out. I dropped about 50 IQ points in his estimation!
Got nothing much done yesterday - even the ice is still there. A young friend came around with Oliver her 7 month old English bulldog. We sat and sipped tea and watched the menagerie play for several hours. Then we watched all three of them nap together on the couch in the back room. Dogs sure know how to have fun. My two small dogs held their own with this 59 pound tank of a dog. Then I threw together a fruit salad dessert, did some finishing touches for supper and had more fun with my friends who came for dinner. (Donna had to go to Gananoque to see her daughter who had a knee operation last week so I was off the hook for tidying!)
Church this morning and THEN tackle the tidying. (At least I ran the dishwasher last night!) I have a very short attention span when it comes to company, especially if they bring their dogs. Too bad I never grew up!
Enjoy your Sunday and you have my permission to goof off.

good morning! Congrats to MissusTaterHead and lynn for their fantastic first week losses! I am happy to say I am down 3 lbs. (have an old fashioned spring scale, not a digi) I wonder if i set my hopes too high for a Feb. month loss of 7? well we will see.
I had multiple dreams last night, that I went out to eat, and KNEW I was going off program, and regretted it so much...when I woke up I was like, 'yay, it was only a dream'
Already have had 2 k kups worth of coffee in my big mug but might need another then work out, then go to work. Hope everyone has a great day, and that it is an on-program day!
