Default Newbie. Forgive me but....

How many times a week does everyone weigh themselves? I know better than to weigh every day but I haven't lost anything in 8 days. I have worked out almost every day and restricted calories. I am almost 3 weeks into my goal of losing 30 lbs. I lost 2 the first week and 1 the second & nothing since. It's easy to see why people can get discouraged. I feel great and thinnner and don't want to give up. I guess I just want to see results :-)

Thanks!

i weight myself every day about i only track wednesdays. when i first started trying to lose weight, i was in your shoes and got frustrated at not seeing results but i decided "why not see what happens if i keep trying this? the worst case scenario is that i will not lose weight?"

to be honest, i say give yourself 6 weeks before you say something is broken. Regular exercise is good for your cardiovascular health, so every workout is beneficial to us. Also, you may look into calorie cycling to break the plateau.

weighing every day isn't necessarily bad or wrong. You just have to be aware of your body's fluctuations and that your weight will rarely be the same every day.

I weighed daily during my weight loss and I weigh daily now that I'm attempting to maintain. I record my weight every day and it's allowed me to see patterns in my weight loss...and create a nice graph!

I weigh daily. But - I have a stretch every month where I do not lose. My body likes to retain water when it's ovulating. If I stick to my plan I am rewarded with a nice big drop all at once. Maybe your body does something similar? Drink lots of water and hang in there!

Btw, I used to be a weekly weigher, but the suspense killed me. I am much happier with daily, I expect fluctuations so they don't bother me.

I also weigh daily. At first I just waned to see the fluctuations day to day. I log it in MyFitnessPal every day and it does help to see the graph it makes. Some days I'll lose or gain 2 lbs in a day. I think if you decide to weigh daily its important to know that you fluctuate and don't get discouraged if you see a gain. Best of luck to you!

I have been weighing myself daily. But can totally relate to the whole getting discouraged thing. It's only been 3 days for me, but I haven't lost anything and I've been eating well and exercising. One member pointed out that because I just began exercising, my muscles may be retaining water. I am hoping that that is the case and that once my body gets used to the exercising (I hadn't exercised for about 5 months up until 3 days ago) that the pounds will begin to shed. Please oh please let this be the case!

i weigh daily because it doesn't drive me crazy and it enables me to better understand what causes my body weight to fluctuate.

I weigh daily, 2-3 times a day too. Once as soon as I wake up, then another after I go to the bathroom, and sometimes a few minutes after that (when I'm done brushing my teeth and washing up - apparently I sometimes gain or lose 200 grams in a span of five minutes! Gets frustrating since I'm not sure which to count!) And sometimes I weigh myself before going to bed, to play a sort of 'guessing game' of how much I'd lose by morning in comparison.

...Hmm, maybe I should cut down a bit...

I weigh everyday and track once a week. I havent lost anything in 2 weeks, so I understand! I track my calories, meet my burn, have a deficit. I changed my exercise routine. I think my body has a love relationship with my fat and doesnt want to lose it. I know one of these days it will start again. I have noticed changes in my body so I am learning to be ok with the scale (for now). I may not see the changes on the scale but I know inside things are moving for the better.

Another daily weigher here.

When I first started this journey (this time!) I did a little self-experiment. I wanted to see HOW MY BODY reacted.

I weighed 1st thing in the morning - upon awakening - completely naked. Then I "went potty" and weighed again. Then I'd eat breakfast & weigh again. Then once more when I got home from work, and one final time after dinner.

I wanted to see the natural fluctuations my body made during the day. I did this several-times-a-day weigh in for nearly a month. I also counted calories, kept a food log, and exercised mildly. It helped me see just how much my "weight" did fluctuate during any given day. It could sometimes be as much as 4-5 lb and one or two occasions by just a few ounces.

I still weigh daily - still 1st thing in the morning, still naked (who cares what my clothes weigh?!?!?!? ) I notice anywhere from a 2-4 lb jump when I eat heavy sodium foods the day before, even when I keep perfectly within my caloric range. When I concentrate on fruits & veggies and some lean meat, I can see a -2 lb difference, seemingly overnight.

But knowing that it takes 3500 calories to make one pound, and knowing that I don't ever eat that much on any given day, I know that any gain is just water weight. Sometimes it can take a week to get it off, tho! - and water weight or fat weight, seeing the scale go up is not a happy moment - EVER! But knowing how MY BODY fluctuates on a regular basis & reacts to certain foods, it helps keep me in check, not panic when I "don't lose anything!" and keep on "keep'n on". And overall, I know I am losing. And that's what the journey is all about.

i'm a bit of a scale freak and weigh in daily... sometimes more than once a day (like after i exercise and before bed as well as in the morning). however, i only log my weight once weekly, on a sunday. the other days are just to keep me on track - i hop on, if it says more then i try not to feel terrible, if it's the same (and it most often is on day-to-day stuff), it helps keep me going.

also, just so you know, when i started this, i didn't see any real results for about a month. then i sort of realised "wow, i've lost weight" and now i see a steady decline (and have lost 14lbs so far, in 2 months)! i felt really despaired also, but don't give up!

I weigh daily too. Seeing daily fluctuations is easier on me than to see that I suddenly gained 9lbs in a week from water weight. Yes I can fluctuate that much in a day all from water weight. So going from 171 yesterday to 174 today is easier for me to handle than it was when I was weighing once a week and would see a 3lb gain.

I weigh daily as well!
It did take me several months to get used to the normal fluctuation's of my body. When I started and I was up a pound in a day it would make me completely miserable and discouraged but not weighing myself daily was not an option for me, even though it drove me insane it kept me on track. Instead I started researching the multiple reasons my weight would fluctuate from day to day and it started to make more sense. Now, the scale going up a couple pounds doesn't bother me nearly as much, although I would be lying if I said it wasn't frustrating at times. I also had to learn to weigh on the same scale, on the same floor tile (yes sometimes this makes a difference lol), naked and after using the ehem, bathroom.

I think its all trial and error, what works for one person wont work for the other. Its up to you to try out different styles, maybe for 3 weeks you try weighing yourself only once a week? If that doesn't work for you then you can bump it up or even down, its whatever you feel comfortable with. Try not to worry about not seeing a drop this week, usually when that happens you will see a woosh of pounds come flying(as long as you stay on track) off in the next 2 weeks or so.
