We got a skiff of snow last night...don't know what's yet to come! I'm off to work early this morning. It was pretty busy yesterday with holiday travelers heading to their ski destinations. It promises to be the same today.
In the spirit of craziness, we started tearing out our dining room carpet yesterday after work. Why not? We won't be having company until Saturday evening. Seriously, I had priced my "dream carpet" last week which was $5000 +. Not in my budget at this point so we decided to reveal the 125 year old maple floor and take some time to decide if we'd like to go back to wood.
I'm staying the course with food at work, which makes me happy. There is so much food temptation there. I've yet to finalize my menus for the 3 consecutive meals here over the weekend. So far, my ideas are pretty much SBD friendly.
What's up in your neck of the woods? Stop and say hi
Wood floor sounds wonderful. We have ceramic flooring that looks and feels like old wood plank floor, and it holds up good with dogs. I would like to get rid of all the carpet in our house and go to flooring. Good luck with your decision.
Not much in the plans today, work and probably do a few small Christmas gifts tonight. Oh, and I need to get brakes on my car, I guess I am at metal on metal. Not good, no time, so off to the shop today.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day, I don't look forward to leftovers at work today. So will take my own snacks for sure.
Debbie, We are going to replace ugly white linoleum with beautiful porcelain tile in the kitchen. I'm every excited about the end product, but the thought of living in a construction zone terrifies me.
Auston had bad dreams last night. He's been up for a couple of hours already. He's laying on the couch eating the rest of the popcorn from last night and watching Ben 10 Ultimate Alien. He's going to have a long day.
By 2:00 yesterday, I was at the office alone. I watched TV. Hope for more of the same today.
ETA: Good Morning, Chickadeee! Brake problems and such things make me thankful for my handy, mechanical hubby. Will you have to take your car to the shop, or do you have a mechanical man, too?
Debbie - I bet the floors are beautiful! And so much easier to clean up dog hair . You have great taste if it's 5K carpet! I am also having mega temptations at work.
Chickadee - you better get those brakes done, in WI in winter! Be safe!
I'm having some strong coffee, waiting for the day to start. DS just got the kitten out to play, and is giggling a bunch . I think I'll wrap some presents after the kids get on the bus (what? not wait until midnight saturday!?). Long day at work, with a chiro appt at a late lunch, and a work Christmas dinner tonight. The place we're going doesn't have great choices, so we'll see how it goes.
Have a great day!
Good morning Chelby! Popcorn for breakfast....my kinda kid!
Good morning Debbie! I remember several years ago that Jake started tearing out my kitchen the day after Christmas, and what's worse, the project wasn't completed until August. Your maple flooring sounds lovely, and I would imagine it looks perfect for your diningroom. Have a good day at work, it must be fun listening to all the excited holiday goers.
I have to find some time today to make a few batches of pizzelles. I found out yesterday that Richard's parents always look forward to them, and I haven't made them this year. I had a nagging headache all day yesterday and just wanted to lay down when I got home last night, but I think I can make them when I get home tonight, even though I won't be getting home until after 7. At least I can sit down while making them.
There's a rumor in the air that we just might have a white Christmas, after all!
Chickadeee, yikes, metal on metal! I'm glad you are getting those brakes taken care of! I cringe at that expense right before Christmas, though.
Chelby, sounds like Auston will be ready for a nap after school today. Getting to watch TV at work doesn't sound too bad at all, and I hope today's just as easy for you. BTW, my oldest GD loves to pour milk on her popcorn and eat it. Blech.
Twynn, so what did you name the Christmas kitten? Sounds like we'll both be working long hours today. I wouldn't mind ending my day with a Christmas dinner party, though. Have a good time!
Good morning! Rainy day here but the temps stayed above freezing so we are missing the storm in western Kansas DS1 got home safely last night; DS2 arrive tonight. DH left early to take his mom for a minor medical procedure today. She has been fainting over the years and they are going to insert a monitoring device to see if she has a heart arrhythmia. I've got one errand to run but think I'll hang out at home with my son, which probably means we'll both be curled up with books. (For anyone wondering, I'm reading Steven King's latest.) Ate well yesterday and hoped for the scale to woosh down like it went up. No Darn. Am I horrible for just wanting the holidays to be over already!?
Good morning. No snow in our forecast for another week so probably no white Christmas. I hope they are wrong in their forecast - they usually are!
Chelby, tell Auston that I fell into a bag of bits an bites or whatever they are called last night. It must be going around. I skipped the scale this morning as I was dressed before I remembered. (Subliminal memory loss. )
Cottage, I hope your day goes quickly and the headache stays away. I am still trying to figure out what a pizzelle is. I hope it has nothing to do with bulls. Guess I should Google it.
Debbie, I would dearly love to rip up my 1976 wall-to-wall and restore the lovely maple floors in this old house. The thought of the dust and confusion makes me forget the idea quickly. One room upstairs was done as an experiment and I don't want to go through that again for a while. Maybe when I get my second wind - or childhood.
Chickadeee, one treat is not a big sin - see my bits & bites confession. When I went to the drugstore, my pharmacist was pushing fudge and shortbread. At least half of Delta is diabetic! I gave him heck and accused him of trying to drum up business.
Karen, thanks for the book recommendation. I just may indulge in a new book after Christmas as I'm sure I'll get a Chapters card.
Twynn, that kitten is so adorable! Are you still referring to her as a "foster" kitten? I had one once who stayed for 22 years.
Made it to the Bank yesterday and also to the grocery store in Elgin for a minor ($130) shop so I can get started on Christmas Eve party prep. By the time I got it all put away, the Town Hall back in order and a few other tasks done, Jazz and I really needed a nap. A half hour really refreshes me and I tackled making taco bake for the freezer late in the day. This morning I will pay some Mill bills, do the Good Food Box routine and then make my meatballs in peanut sauce for the freezer. I may tackle some sherried mushroom empanadas - all stuff I can freeze and pop into the oven. I do not worry about SBD compliant when I do party food but will have veggies and dips of course.
Sierra, my foster-grand, is coming over for a visit this evening. She is 16 and absolutely gorgeous now that her teeth have been perfected. (I kind of adopted her and paid for her teeth as a sort of pay-back to my sister who paid for my dd's ortho stuff way back in my single parent days.) I think I will ask her to help me finish some up high decorating as I'm too wobbly on ladders lately.
"Enough blabbing. Get on with it, Ruthie!" (How can I get rid of the ghost of my mother?)
Whew! I've seen those in Italian grocery stores but didn't know what they were. I just got straightened out on cannoli two years ago when Jiff and Leenie were here! Stupid Anglos! Yummy stuff.
I got on the scale this morning and my ticker is full of lies. I've been so sick lately - now it's the body aches. It hurts to type. Got a call in to the Doctor so we'll see.
Have to get to the store tonight - maybe Ph 1 it for a few days. And I need to get my water in! While I haven't gone too off plan (I had white bread, a slice of gingerbread cake and a slice of pizza in NY), it shouldn't cause a 4 pound gain so I am back to Ph 1 for a few days. Hopefully I can get the scale back down to 229 and maybe lose a pound before month's end.
If only I could exercise. This cold or whatever it is is kicking my hiney!
Cottage, I used to LOVE pizzelles. I even saw them at home in NY but didn't dare touch them!!!
