Thumbs up So Excited To Start The Journey!!

Hello everyone!

To start off, I should say that this is the last thing I should be doing. I'm over-stressed trying to finish my thesis as a masters student in Entomology (insects), I work overnights/evenings at a convenience store, and I used to spend most of my time on message boards talking about how I hadn't eaten anything in 5 days.

Now I'm healthier, yet fatter than ever. I've been married for over a year now, and everything has been going down the drain including my smoking habits, oversleeping habits, and my work habits. I basically stopped writing, and started replacing that time with sleeping and playing angry birds.

BUT... this is also my mini-goal post...

I hate posting my weight, but let's just say that I've gained 40 pounds since I met my husband, and I refuse to buy new clothes (I will not except my fatness).

SINCE that time, I decided to do some random squats at work while I was bored, which led to quitting smoking, which led to randomly picking up "The Sonoma Cookbook" that I bought for $3.99 at Borders on sale.

HOORAY!!! I've done all of these things...
-I quit smoking (two weeks)
-I work out nearly every day (low intensity so I don't get burnt out)
-I've lost 6.5 lbs in 7 days on the Sonoma diet
-I have stopped eating sugar (3 more days until I can eat fruit! YAY!)

SUFFUSIVE TO SAY... I feel wonderful! This journey has and will been tough! But I never want to eat any other way

I have no weight goals (developing unrealistic and unhealthy goals is not something I want to go back to)
- I want to feel healthy
- have energy
- lose vices
- gain focus
- and FIT INTO SOME OF MY CLOTHES!! =D

Anyhow, for those who lurk, and feel like they're not sure if they want to post... REPLY TO ME! I LOVE EVERYONE! AND I WANT TO KNOW HOW FAR YOU'VE COME!

Hi and WELCOME to 3fc. I started my journey on January 20th of this year and so far I have lost 74 lbs. When I started I didn't really have a plan but now I am calorie counting but also interested in low carb and paleo. I'm always trying to educate myself on nutrition.

There is so much good information on this forum and the success stories are inspirational. Congratulations for starting and already having a weight loss! You can do this. Join in and become part of the 3fc family!

Aw, thanks so much for the warm welcome!

I'm trying to branch out, because my husband is eating the meals with me, but he doesn't have any weight to lose, so he gets to eat fruit, and I know he eats stuff he shouldn't when I'm not around (like ICE CREAM, thanks to the in-laws for instilling that terrible obsession).

HENCE... I can't talk to him about how it feels to quit sugar. He works out extremely hard 5-6 days a week, and he would wither away if he were on wave 1 on the Sonoma diet. HE HAD 4 peanut butter sandwiches the other night! How rude!

It feels good to be part of a community that is going through what I'm going through. I avoided the scale for a good year, because I actually used to have an eating disorder, and be UNDERWEIGHT... But I'm ready to go about this in the right way, and eat 3 meals a day, and work out juuust enough

what is paleo by the way?

You rock.
And I have to say....I think YOU ARE SO COOL for being an Entomologist! I went to school for Ecology, so it's not like they're very close to each other....but I love to see other scientists around!
Keep up the good work and the positive attitude. Don't get discouraged! I just started my diet three weeks ago....so if you don't get discouraged, I won't. Deal?

Thanks Rapunzel!

And it's a deal! Let's keep each other motivated!

And I've actually got two projects that have a lot to do with Ecology. One has to do with integrating prairie into crop systems in order to increase the abundance of natural enemies (of pest insects). The other deals with releasing a parasitoid (a wasp that kills a pest insect) into soybean. Very ecologically centered, which means... WOOHOO! TOUGH STATS!

So, you've got a friend in Science and Dieting

For all of you who are wondering how well the Sonoma diet works... I'm in wave 1, my husband is in wave (whatever he feels like that day), and he's lost 6 pounds. He told me this morning that he'd lost more weight and I made him fess up to how much total (now we're even ).

He started out in incredibly good shape, he does P90X, and does other workouts throughout the week, and yet... a man who is loosely following the Sonoma diet can lose 6 pounds in 8 days. I don't get it!

He gets to eat fruit, and I don't, yet he keeps losing weight (I'm guessing it's because he works out so hard, AND he's used to eating a lot more food)...

The only thing I can say is that I've kept him from eating a lot of crappy food in the past few days, but it's not fair... he hasn't sacrificed sugar!!!!

Welcome to your life long journey. I have lost 24 pounds since August. I am calorie counting with MFP. And... I am eating 1/2 cup of icecream each night. Minimal exercise with walking my fur boys.
