HELP!!!!!!!!! I just started making broccoli cheese soup, and the recipe calls for 6 oz. of Velveeta cheese----is that 6 oz in a measuring cup or 6 oz on the scale???? Thanks for your help.
6 ounces on the scale A measuring cup may weigh liquid volume, but not solids. For example, a cup of shredded cheese generally weighs only 4 ounces, while a cup of water weighs 8 ounces. You'll need to weigh the velveeta. Or, if you don't have a scale handy, mark the block accordingly. (Score an 8oz block into 8 sections, and 3/4 of the block is 6oz, ...etc)
Thank you so much Suzanne for the info--- you really saved my dinner---I was having a "Senior Moment," The soup was really delicious, it's called Broccoli Cheese Soup. Here it is: 2c. chopped broccoli (fresh) 2 cans chicken broth, 1 garlic clove, minced 1 can diced tomatoes w/juice 6 oz. Velveeta light, cubed. 1/2 sm. can green chilies (optional) Cook broccoli till tender, drain. Add broth, garlic, tomatoes and chilies. Bring to a simmer. Lower temperature and add Velveeta. ( If the broth is not cool enough, the cheese will curdle. ) I love this site, it is so informative and "fun." Iam new to all of this, so bear with me while I goof up---did I send this to the wrong forum??? Thanks again for your help----and keep up the great work.
