Question Low carb alternatives?

Pretty much all of my favourite meals contain a wealth of delicious (and not so nutritious) carbs. I've tried to substitute all of mine for their wholemeal alternative but want to cut it down more!

So, what are your favourite, filling, low (or no) carb dishes?

Default A lot

Hi I completely understand where your coming from I'm a carb addict too. however due to my recent diagnosis with PCOS. I know that low carb diet is the way to go. I bough the atkins book and started doing that. While it was hard for the first week I've grown not to crave carbs. The website has alot of great recipes.

I really like many of their meat recipes, they do a fo mac and cheese using cauliflower that is good to.

One of the things I do instead of mashed potatoes I do puree cauliflower (sounds gross but a bit of butter not bad at all), Another one I like to do is use zucchini instead of noodles, you can buy a Julianne peeler it makes strips for you and use it as pasta. I also like to use the zucchini strips instead of Japanese noodles with soy, ginger, sesame yum!

This link below gives tons of low carb options. and she rates whether the meals were good.

Hi,

I prefer to have vegetable juice or smoothie in the morning. oatmeal , multi-grain cereals and egg whites in the breakfast. I do add lot of salads with vinegar dressing n soups in my diet which are fibrous and keep me filling.

Thanks n Stay Healthy,
Kimberly.

These are some great alternatives..whole oat cereal, chicken, turkey, fish ,brown rice, soy bean black beans, apples berries, grapes, green high fuel salad, egg whites, and baked goods...

If you eat this way your body is in no danger of not being satisfied.

Have you tried spaghetti squash, mashed cauliflower or cauliflower "rice"?

Try the Dukan recipes? Have a look here on the Dukan threads as people have posted a few - alternatively the Dukan diet book has lots of low/no carb recipes.

My favourite low(ish) carb meal is grilled salmon with lots of roasted veggies like peppers, courgettes, beetroot, red onion etc. A lot of veggies I like roasting are pretty sweet so they'll be higher in carbs than green leafy veg but still better than a giant bowl of pasta lol!

When I was doing Atkins I pretty much lived on a piece of meat and veg mix. Veg mix is great cos you can make it with whatever veg bits you can find in your fridge, you just chop and up and cook them in your preferred method usually stir fry for me. For snacking or really quick meals I would just have a bowl of a baby leaf salad with a generous helping of LF mayonnaise, for more low-carb ideas go on the Atkins sub-forum the girls there are really helpful.

Kudos to Riddy: Mashed/pureed cauliflower is a lower carb starch option; Spaghetti quash too. I got a spirallizer for Christmas and plan on making noodles out of all things vegetal.

Working around a protein base with an easy nuked frozen veggie always works for me.
