Default First Time Joining WW!

Hi all!

I just joined WW points plus online a few days ago. So far, I like it, but, like a lot of people (or so it seems), I have a few concerns about whether it is going to work. I have been on calorie counting diets before that have worked pretty well, but I always end up falling off the wagon and gaining the weight back. This time, I decided to try something new (and started before I gained ALL the weight from my last diet back). Basically, I generally hover in the upper 160s, and I would like to lose that last 15-20 pounds once and for all, since during my last diet I hit a major plateau. I know weight watchers seems to work very well for people who have large amounts of weight to lose, but I'm just worried that it might not work as well for me, especially since fruits and vegetables are 0 points. It seems like it has been impossible for me to get below 160 and it is so frustrating!

What do you guys think about my situation? I'm going to stick with it for a while since I paid for it and see how it goes. Any words of advice?

Also, how much do you think I should be exercising? Do you think walking 30-40 minutes a day is sufficient?

Looking forward to being a part of this online community!

Welcome to 3FC & Welcome to WW

Glad to have you join in!

You're already going to stick with it a while, so honestly the best thing you can do is continue to stick with it no matter what.

Keep in mind that you won't want to go into this with a diet mentality of "if this doesn't work I'll just quit it". WW is not about that. It's about having a general frame of reference. A way to track and monitor your food and exercise - while at the same time making tweaks to the program in order to fit your life and your body.

Let's step back a moment.

You have about 15 or so pounds to lose. Unfortunately for people with less to lose, it can often mean that it takes a little longer for weight loss to show up on the scale. No fun, but there's not much to be done about it except to stick with your plans and tweak them slightly if necessary.

If you come to a plateau in the future, think of it as practicing maintenance. Because we're all here to be at this forever. Maintenance is similar to being on a forever-plateau. Have to still be mindful of our food intake, and keep ourselves active.

Fruits & vegetables are zero points, but there's a little tidbit note about this. The number of servings for fruits and vegetables a day is averaged between 5-8. That's servings... not just number of fruits/vegetables. As a serving for most produce is 1/2 a cup. (That's 1/2 a banana.)

If you're really worried about overdoing the fruits/veg then watch how many you're eating a day. Keep track of them, and watch the scale to see if too many affect you, or if they don't hinder your weight loss. Even on a program like WW, it's absolutely necessary to make individual observations about how things work for us. Some of us can eat as much fruit as we please. Others have to limit it to just a couple pieces a day. Just like any other plan... watch, and tweak the plan as needed.

Your exercise sounds perfectly fine. Any amount of activity or movement is wonderful, and as time goes on if you feel it's not enough you can always add intensity or time.

There's no rush to any of this. We're here for the long haul. To learn, and practice and continue forward one step at a time.

You can do this!

I've known people that just walked 20mins a day! On top of her daily routine..
I just started 10/9 online also and it's going great! This week I'm focusing more on "okay what do I want to eat" pack my little lunch for the day and then add the points once I get to school and then I can visualize what I put together and how many points that is.. backwards from what I did the first week, by okay I need about 12 points for lunch.. okay cheese is 3, bread is 4, turkey is 3... etc..
