From what I've read, your metabolism is what it is. You can gain a bit of a metabolism increase by increasing your muscle mass, but not as much as many people think. Here's an article on that subject, if you're interested: http://articles.latimes.com/2011/may...-myth-20110516

You can't "boost" your metabolism. Don't waste money on products that claim otherwise!

Well, you might see your doctor to see if you have hpothyroid problems.

Green tea is supposed to be helpful for weight loss, and maybe the caffeine is part of the reason which might boost your metabolism a bit. It's not a miracle cure though.

The best way is probably exercise. You are certainly boosting it for the duration of the exercise and a tiny bit for the rest of the time and there are so many other important benefits (health, appearance).

But if you do boost your metabolism, you are likely to be hungrier, so if weight loss is your goal, you will have to be strict about calorie counting or food restriction through some other means.

Yes, I think so, too. I was thinking of posting it in the Exercise forum. The author really puts in perspective the calorie burn one can expect. I think I have been as guilty as others of thinking that regular lifting (not bodybuilder type---just run-of-the-mill) would eventually somehow allow me to eat a couple hundred more calories a day!

I think that's very true. I exercise daily for at least an hour and it leaves me much hungrier than I am in a lazy day. Dietwise, whether we've got a "fast" or "slow" metabolism if the appetite goes up or down along with it, I guess it makes no actual difference? Except for people who can ignore their hunger easily and want to lose weight faster (?)
