Question Pounds vs inches

I think my scale hates me! I have been cutting waaay down on carbs this last month, walking and my scale is all over the place.I can feel and see the difference in my clothes but my scale is all over the place.
I weighed in Wednesday at 294.6 and have even doubled my walking distance 3 times this week to 1.7 miles.I woke up this morning very stiff, legs heavy and got on the scale 301!!WHAT!! this can't be right.I am staying below 1500 calories per day.
What can cause such a dramatic weight fluctuation especially when my clothes say otherwise.

It' got to be water retention. Especially if your muscles are sore. Inflammation indicates water retention. Not to worry too much. Just get through it.

Hi, I have been counting calories since January and have lost 85 pounds. What I have found, is that I do not expel food and water as fast as I take it in. So I don't worry when the scale fluctuates. I just keep plodding along doing my plan every day no matter what. There have been times I would not lose for a couple of weeks and then boom lose several pounds in one week. So please don't fret, just keep on your healthy plan and it will work. Please let me know of you have any questions. Good Luck

Water. Swelling of muscles. Food still going through your digestive tract.

Lots and lots of reasons why the scale fluctuates. And they have nothing to do with fat.

Since the scale is so fickle (and not always the most accurate representation of fat loss) a lot of people like to also take measurements every once in a while and take pictures to see their progress.

It's very, very normal for the scale to be all over the place as you lose weight. It might settle down over time, or you might have to simply place a little less emphasis on what it says since you're sticking to your plans.

Look at it this way...you're building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. If you're losing the inches, be happy!! Obviously you're doing something right to be losing anything at all!

Ugh! I feel your pain - seriously. Bouncing around could be caused by anything and most of those things have very little to do with actual fat gain. Water is a big thing and if you've been exercising more your muscles may be retaining water to heal themselves.

Another thought is that your scale may have an issue. About a year ago mine started bouncing around like crazy and I just plain old needed a new one.

I am soo glad to know it's not just me.I skipped my walk yesterday because I was sore everywhere especially my feet and legs they feel like I have weights on them when I try to walk.
I am still very sore and stiff this morning so I am debating on whether I should do the 2 mile walk or go back to 1 until muscles feel better,
I really don't want to go back I am hoping that if I push through it my endurance will go up and the soreness will stop.
The scale I have is new so I doubt it needs to be replaced.I thought of the muscle gain but honestly at 300 pounds I would rather see the scale go down from fat loss instead of going up due to muscle gain. Thanks ,and hopefully I won't collapse today during my walk..

I'm in the same place, been at 203 for about 2 weeks now but in that 2 weeks I have lost 7 inches! Where my size 12's are just starting to get a little roomier. But the weight stays the same. Honestly I'm gonna chuck the scale. If you are losing inches then you are losing FAT! I'd be more worried if you were losing weight and not inches cause that's a sure sign of losing muscle and you don't want that. So keep up what your doing, honestly I think inches speak the truth, muscle is much denser and takes up less space than fat, so if your clothes are fitting better and the inches are coming off your fat is melting!! YEAHHH YOU!!!!

That's normal.

It's also why I usually only weigh once a day. And that's first thing in the morning.

We gain weight during the day. Water and tea have weight. So even "only" drinking that much is enough to put weight on your body. Scale doesn't know that you "only" drank those things. It just sees weight.

If water didn't add weight, then gallon jugs of water wouldn't weigh 8 pounds.

That's not really all that crazy in the least. It's very, very ordinary.

Try not to fret so. Just keep sticking to your plan and exercise. Someone told me once that i didnt put all this weight on in just a few weeks and it is not going to melt away instantly. So I try for 10 lbs a month. Hang on there.

I would definitely take pics weekly and start measuring yourself. I am sure you are losing inches as well. I know some weeks when I have slow losses my inches are up. Just a suggestion

I will admit..I am inpatient lol.I never in my life have been so commited to this as I Have been the last 6 weeks.Never was a big eater or a binge eater just ate the wrong kind of food(carbs). The water thing makes soo much sense I never even thought about picking up a jug of water as per how much water weighs.I am walking 6.5 miles per day, zumba 2 days a week.I guess I expected more than 10 pounds by now.Not giving up though.
