Default Very interesting scientific american article and an invitation

Hi all,

This is a link to a very interesting article about diet. It is an in-depth look at nutrition research from the last decade and how the food pyramid is likely to be changed. It takes the time to describe the whys of nutrition and think it will be helpful to everyone. Find it here.

Second, an invitation to the Men's Corner. Everyone is welcome especially people who have someone male in their life, friend, husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, co-worker, whomever who is dealing with weight issues.

Cheers,

Larry

Wow no comments?

This is a pretty worthwhile read. I am trying to follow the recommendations. I was a big potato eater for instance but I am trying to cut down. I only buy whole wheat bread and try to limit bread consumption when I don't know if it is whole grain or not. Of course exercise and overall calorie intake are important as well. Anyhow I think the article is great because it is writen very clearly and it is the best source I have ever come across of explainin why refined grains are not good for you.

Thank you for pointing out this article! I've often considered purchasing Willett's book "Eat, Drink, and be Healthy" which the article seems to be based on. The Amazon book description includes "The thing to keep in mind about the USDA Pyramid is that it comes from the Department of Agriculture, the agency responsible for promoting American agriculture, not from the agencies established to monitor and protect our health." According to the article, the USDA is reassessing the pyramid, but it will be 2004 before it is completed!

The article was filled with interesting information, such as "Eating a boiled potato raises blood sugar levels higher than eating the same amount of calories from table sugar." That surprised me. I agree with your statement that the article clearly explained why refined carbs are bad for you.

I think I'll go order the book now!
