We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support, inspiration, and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.
We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't.
We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time.
Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simultaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out.
We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to October. It's getting colder here in the South, and while usually that means I'd not want to go outside and exercise, it has done the opposite. I hate all that humidity that lingers on the summer air, and sticks through September. However, already, it is fresh, cold air and easier for me at least to get out and motivated.
Everytime I went outside to do something, it would start to sprinkle. I was beginning to take it personally since it would stop when I'd go inside!! LOL. At least I got the lawn mowed yesterday before the rains started. I still have to do a billizon loads of laundry *sigh*
I have an old dog that has started marking the basement (tinkling in one spot). So I have the baby gate up. I mopped and mopped - soap, pinesol, soap, bleach, soap, odorban, vinegar, soap, vinegar... nothing got the smell out. Then she did it 2 more times!!! UGGGHHHH! This time I got some Nature's Miracle. Hoping it works like other people say it does. I'm tired of mopping that floor.
Time to make a grilled cheese, with a little homemade pesto on it and eat some tomato soup!
Have fun Lynnie! Is your 79 lb loss just since March?
I weighed in today and barely a pound is gone even though i've stayed on plan with food for the entire week. I suspect it may be partly due to TOM. It's not playing nice this month, it can't decide whether or not to come, it's so frustrating having all the signs and symptoms of TOM and just waiting.....
I need to workout more, i keep making excuses and it needs to stop!
I know I am loving the cooler temperatures. After breaking all time heat records this summer, 50 degrees feels cold!!
I hate being the only person sweating. *sigh* I guess that's one of the reasons I'm here. If I lose this insulation, hopefully I won't be the only one with a 'glow' when everyone is hanging out.

no since sept of 2010. I wish it was only since march.
Good luck Ratkitten. I can never seem to be strong and resist the urges to eat something 'bad', i need to work harder on it. I was just too pissed off today to want to fight in line at the grocery store (we were supposed to go sunday and have avoided it every day!), we have nothing to make a meal and so i went to Wendy's.
Hi everybody! xxxx
Well I FINALLY lost 4lbs, my ticker is now legal! Woohoo! I have no idea why the weight is coming off SO slowly, 1350 calories, exercise... I had a 'fill' to my band on Wednesday and I have to be on liquids for 2 days, then soft, sloppy foods for 2 days. I should be on sloppy stuff today but anything cold seems to struggle to go down and thick lentil soup is the same, I've lost count of the times I've thrown up coz food got 'stuck' -it isn't like being sick, more like burping and the relief once the blockage has gone is brilliant. I REALLY have to work on my emotions and eating habits though, I eat fast, NOT good with a band, the bander's motto is 'chew, chew, chew, then chew some more' I MUST start following it!
Fatmom isn't there othe places to shop near you, farmers' markets, big malls? I HATE food shopping but go anyway, my sister does most of hers online, have you thought of that? Hope the Wendy's didn't upset you, being in the UK and living in a small town we don't have the variety of takeaway foods you do and luckily they've never really tempted me that much.xxx
Ratkitty, I hate TOM too! I hate the depression that comes with it, I often feel suicidal, even when I'm on anti-ds. Hope it goes quickly. Poor you getting wet floors and wet outside too! We had a bad rain last night, our power went off, the whole area, 10+ sq miles was affected. Hubby was on nights so I sat in the dark for a few minutes then felt my way around to locate a lighter (We have real fires so there's always matches or lighters in high cupboards) and then a candle. Hope your dog recovers, BTW have you tried biological washing powder? We had a dog behaviourist tell us that is best to remove the 'doggy smell' and stop 'marking'. xxx
Saw all your weather remarks, it has been WAY weird here, in the 70-80s in OCTOBER??? It's now cool and windy/rainy like a TYPICAL British Autumn, lol! We were roasting and had a bbq on Sunday, everone was in shorts and beer gardens in the pubs were FULL!! I had to bring the fans down from the loft so I could exercise and so we were cool.
xxxx sharon
Fmom (sounds funny to say your nick that way, but I hate the word fat), I don't label foods as good or bad. They just are. I'm even trying to label them "better or more protein than carbs" or "high carbs" and trying for the protein choices. I also don't deny myself anything during the week before TOM. I'm crazy enough, I don't need to add to it!! My baby steps are to identify the situation or emotion making me eat a high carb choice, then I eat it or not. Many times I just say "oh, that's why I want that" and might choose something else to eat. Someone once told me that it's hard to walk forward when you have one foot kicking yourself in the *** so I try not to beat myself up over unhealthy choicecs. LOL. OH! And Wendy's chili is a great choice for protein, btw.
OMGosh sharon, I hear ya about the chew chew chew!! I have a small banded pouch (permanent mesh band on my banana looking tummy). Sometimes I call my tummy The Alien because some proteins are harder to digest than others and it gurgles loudly at work LOL. I can't count the times I've lost my meal because I didn't chew enough or I ate too fast. Even yogurt can cause the "sink effect". Think of a sink that you pour something down fast and then run water on it immediately. It will clog up. So I eat a little. Sip some. Wait. Repeat.
I'm on anti's too for stress. They help me tremendously, but TOM is a different monster, isn't he? Defies most meds. Just knock me out and let me sleep through the pain part!!
I have Coleman lanterns and Kerosene ones everywhere in the house because of camping. I'm never in the dark except at work (govt worker joke heheh). Sorry you lost power!
Buffy is banned from the basement for now. I used the natural detergent here called Nature's Miracle. Smelled good for 2 days, and then the tinkle smell was back. Gonna try again and call the vet to see if they have any specially strong enzyme treatments. She's a happy doggie, but not too bright. LOL. Even her adopted brother, Charley, is smarter than her. Gotta love em. She's never had an accident in 9.5 years. She might be getting a wee senile, but she's a happy senile!! Boss kitty has to get his teeth cleaned on Monday. He has inflamed gums and the vet will probably have to pull 2 molars. Poor kittums, but they are bothering him. She said he was just one of those kittehs with a reactive mouth. Hasn't decreased the butterball's appetite, btw.
Rat - nature's miracle didn't work for us - hope you have better luck. Bleach and/or white vinegar did the best - then we sealed the concrete floor with the cheapest gallon of varnish we could find - not sure who told us to do it but it's worked since ours was a basement floor too we could do that.
